Theater Minor

Can anybody give me a list of schools that offer Theater minors? I'm considering colleges in PA, WV, VA, OH, MD, DC. Also, what can you do with a Theater minor? And will the universities allow this minor if your major isnt really in the same field(im pretty set on a political science major, but i really want to do theater as well)

Why would you want to minor in something unrelated to your major?

because they arent related...im still really uncertain, i would consider a double major too, if it were a smaller and less academically challenging school

I know they aren't related, what i dont understand is why you'd want a minor that doesn't compliment your major

because many of the schools ive been looking at allow you to choose a concentration within a poli sci major such as international affairs, economics, etc. This decreases the need for a minor. Also, many of these do not even require minor work in a certain field because of this. This got me considering a theater minor because, well...i can

Many kids take minors unrelated to their majors just because they have many unrelated interests; that's the whole point of a minor.

To answer the OP's question:
Goucher has a poli sci major and theater minor
So does Swarthmore
And American University

I've been looking at American. Ive also been looking at Point Park, I believe theyve a theater minor

Point Park is strictly (or primarily) a performing arts college. It's not a liberal arts one. I wouldn't even bother with Point Park for poli sci.

Check out Denison.

Political Science Dept.:

Can anybody tell me what a theater minor would carry with it? Mainly concerning work after graduating.

Poli sci & theater ... hmmm ... aren't most politicians actors?? LOL.

ya, so why not get the proper education rather than attempt to do it, and often times badly...but enough of that, haha.

Penn has both too...I doubt you'll find too many places that won't let you minor in something unrelated, if anything I expect they'd encourage it.

You don't need a theatre major or minor to find work in theatre after college. What you need is solid, practical experience and the willingness to starve :)

In terms of getting your first job, it is much more important to have been a lighting director or the play's lead than to have taken a graduate course about Strindberg. What you might investigate is whether non-theatre majors are welcome in the department's productions. Some schools restrict participation; many, especially the smaller schools, do not.

ok so i appreciate all the help. Does anybody know, on average, is it easier to be accepted as a theater minor? Are the auditions any different?

Many theater minors don't require auditions. The colleges I listed in post #6 don't. Check with the colleges.

I have been looking at American. I don't think I could get in Swarthmore, and I don't know anything about Goucher. I know that many schools that have theater majors also have a minor but I didn't know about the auditions, thanks for that. I guess I could always audition for the major, and if I don't get into that, declare a poli sci major and theater minor.
