Hi I'm very interested in UVA and theater is a big criteria for me. I live in California so I was hoping some people from the area might be able to give me a better feel for what the theater program is like there and how good it is in their opinion? Thanks!

You may want to post this on the Theatre and Drama majors forum as well.

Thank you for your advice, I just did!

Here is an article describing the Drama Dept’s 2010-2011 season: [U.Va. Department of Drama Announces 2010-11 Season](http://www.virginia.edu/uvatoday/newsRelease.php?id=12702)

You may also be interested in the Arts at UVA website. There has been a lot of building and development in the arts in recent years. If you get to visit at some point, definitely take a little time to walk over to see the facilities.

It’s an incredible building, the theatres are both beautiful and every staff member I’ve met has been the nicest. I love it here.

The “First Year Players” program is a nice opportunity for new students, with a fall production and a spring production made up of a mixture of theater students and “regular” people. That might be particularly neat for someone coming from far away (like California!) and not knowing anybody or having accessible family. The tryouts are competitive so there’s no guarantee.
