Theatre/Acting Muhlenberg College Compared to University of the Arts

My D was accepted to both for Acting program. UofA is a BFA and Muhlenberg has a strong Theatre/Performance BA program. We’re going out to PA to visit Muhlenberg. We visited UofA a year ago on a general tour just passing thru. D has met several ppl from Muhlenberg including the director when they were out in our area a few months ago. Even though she’s primarily interested in a BFA she LOVED everything she heard about Muhlenberg.

I was wondering is anyone had any insight/input/experience with either of these colleges re:Acting programs, the professors, and moving forward after graduation in regards to alumni, connections, work/internships??

(She was also accepted to Pace, which we are visiting next month as well. These all seem like very different schools. We’re both more familiar with Pace b/c she has friends in the program already )

Thanks in advance for any input.

I can comment on Muhlenberg in general. It really is a nice school because it has something for everyone. Great campus, great food, strong retention and graduation rates, diverse academic profile for a school so deep in theater. Artsy kids, preppy kids, nerdy kids and jockey kids all there.

I have been to a few summer productions and they are several notches above what other schools put on.

I don’t think you can go wrong at Muhlenberg. My mother in law saw Hello Dolly last summer or the summer before and she said it was fantastic.

I’d go with Muhlenberg. Very strong for theater but very strong in other subjects, so that you have a fallback career option if need be. Plus, it’s more residential and most students are academically stronger. As for theater, they have excellent productions and career opportunities.

If you go to the theatre in NYC and look at the bios in the Playbills, more times than not you will find someone who has graduated from Muhlenberg.

This may be worth asking in the Theatre/Drama forum. I expect the people there would know about both of these places and be able to compare the specifics of the programs. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/

Thanks very much for all the input. I’m going to repost this in Theatre/Drama forum. It’s interesting there’s no feedback from University of the Arts…

Would any of you have any thoughts on Muhlenberg Theatre vs Pace BA Theatre (International Performance Ensemble)???
