Theatre at Rice?

My daughter (a HS junior) is interested in the Shepherd School of Music at Rice, but she's been deeply involved in theatre for years and wants to continue participating in it. I know that Rice has only theatre courses - not a department or a major - but from their website, it appears that The Rice Players (a student organization) and the residential colleges offer the only theatre productions on campus. Is there no annual theatre mainstage series planned and directed by faculty or staff?

The Rice Players shows are directed by Trish Rigdon, who is a faculty member.

The college theater productions are directed by students, but that does not mean that they are not often fantastic.

If your daughter is very talented, there are also theater companies in the city, like Theater under the Stars, and others that she could look into joining.

Thanks Jenskate - That sounds reassuring. The link on the website to The Rice Players didn't indicate any professional direction that I saw.

No problem - Rice Players also has a staff member as the technical director.

Here are links for audition information for Theater under the Stars, Main Street Theater, and The Company OnStage. I imagine that these are HIGHLY competitive.
