Are the major productions inclusive to non-majors? Are there many student-run projects? How many performances are there a year?

Thanks!

Please reply!!

I am so surprised that no one has answered hsvanni. Non-majors are VERY welcomed in Tufts productions, and there are lots of student-run projects. If you like musical theatre, Torn Ticket II is a completely student-run group.

I don’t have up-to-date particulars for you, and I hope some current students do answer. But I also know that several of the students I’ve interviewed were excited about Tufts specifically because they could study something else but still participate in theatre in a meaningful way.

The [Drama department](Homepage | Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies) puts on three shows a year, [3Ps (a student run organization) puts on at least three shows each semester, Torn Ticket II/url usually does 1 major and 2 minor productions each semester, and this still doesn’t count the student written works done through Bare Bodkin, or the Black Box Theatre Company, or Traveling Treasure Trunk](<a href=“Tufts University”>Tufts University), or the shows students put on as part of classes on directing/acting.

None of these are restricted by major. There is an almost absurd amount of theater doing on (3Ps claims to be the 2nd largest organization on campus) despite there being only a couple dozen Drama majors in each class. It’s a huge and widely inclusive community.

I graduated a couple years ago, but still keep in touch with the Tufts theatre groups. It hasn’t changed much since I was here, so hopefully I can help out. Dan is absolutely right, there’s a lot of involvement from non-majors. I wasn’t a drama major, but was still heavily involved. In fact, the majority of people involved in theatre at Tufts are not drama majors. I did lighting design and stage management for many student-directed shows through 3Ps and Torn Ticket II, and worked on a few department shows, as well as worked directly for the department. You can be involved as much or as little as you want.

Thanks for replying! This is really great, it makes me optimistic. :)
