What colleges offer a major in theatre education? I am trying to find back up schools to apply to if I do not get accepted into Emerson but I’m having a hard time finding schools that offer a major in theatre education. Does anyone know of any good schools that offer this major?
The major you’re looking for might not be theater education elsewhere - it might just be a regular theater major with an endorsement or certification program in teaching, either specifically in theater or in the fine arts more generally. Look at what the requirements are to be endorsed as a theater teacher in your home state, and go from there. This major is likely to be difficult to find because there’s not a huge demand for K-12 theater teachers, and if you want to teach theater at the college level you’ll need an MFA or PhD. A better bet to be a theater/drama teacher at the K-12 level may be to double major and/or get endorsed to teach in another field, like English; most of the classes you’ll teach will be English lit/lang and you can teach drama classes as electives.
