My son is very active in theatre at his high school but will be studying computer science at Miami. Can he still audition and participate in theater productions on campus or are they limited to theatre and performing arts majors?
When my son visited Miami he had an info session with the art department and the theater head was there. She seemed pretty enthusiastic about having any interested students participate in the theater productions regardless of major.
My son is also currently very active in high school theater and interested in continuing to participate as a business major next year.
Many schools say non-majors are welcome, but dig deeper if this is a big factor for you as it may be close to impossible for non-majors to be cast (males may have it easier). It also may be hard for non-majors to schedule the practices and performances around their other classwork. The kids who are theater majors are hanging around the building all the time and they don’t have to leave to go to the computer lab.
