Theft in dorms?

Nope, never got my stuff back. :(

Don’t make the same dumb mistake I did!

“Locking” the door simply means closing it, right?

I’ll be in a suite of single rooms in hedrick summit. (Didn’t expect that at all, being a freshman.) Will my suitemates’ room keys be able to open my own room, and vice versa?

Also, wondering about this–why can’t your bruincard simply be the card key? Wouldn’t that be simpler if they worked it that way?

In the dorms, yes.

No. They will also need to know your “passcode” to get into your room. (At least that’s how it is in the RV/RT single suites)

You’ll most likely lose your roomkey (or lock it in your room) more than once. If your Bruincard was your roomkey, it would cost a lot more to replace your Bruincard every time you lost it than a plain roomkey.

ok, thanks!

in the single suites, there are 3 doors. the 10 of you have access to your common room, then 5 of you have access to your hallway/bathroom area, then only you can get in your room. you use your key and the last 4 digits of your student ID.

this also answers your last question- someone could look up your room if they had your bruincard (on facebook, or asking people, or names on doors, or sheer luck) and they’d have your student ID number to key into the door. no bueno, lol.

So can we just enter our student ID into the number pad on the door to get in? I don’t really want to carry my room card with my everywhere, I have a tendency of losing things :X

No, you still have to dip the room key into the lock first. The last 4 of ID is for extra security.

Dammit, I don’t want to take my room key with me to the restrooms, I also have a tendency of dropping things in the toilet. What’s wrong with me? Haha. But thanks!

sometimes you can score something good at the dinning locker room area. A lot of people think it’s a good idea to just leave their stuff on the racks or on top of the lockers. Those usually don’t have much, maybe a calculator. I particularly like the bags in the lockers without taking the time to get the token to actually lock the damn thing. I have found a bag with a laptop and an iPod once. Someone I know has been able to get a laptop too.

oh, i also enjoy locking those lockers with stuff in them, and wait for people to come back to get their stuff only to find that’s its been locked. LOL

@GrassBandit–that’s straight-out mean.

@GrassBandit: I lol’d inappropriately.

especially the part about locking people’s stuff in the locker when they neglected to do so–that doesn’t even give YOU any benefit, but you’d still invest the time to do it?
