Is there a history of alot of stealing in the dorms? Like if someone left their door open, anyone could walk in and take the laptops/tvs/cd/s anything else. I know there have been a string of bike thefts but just wondering if burglary was common

Theft in the dorms is uncommon. You live with these people - they're not likely to steal from you. The only theft that really goes on is when people bring friends from other dorms and they steal stuff, but even that doesn't happen very often.

well, safe or not, there's still people who are kleptos. living in a dorm in high school, i've heard of incidences of people stealing clothes (girl drama) or jewelry/watches. you may not need to always lock your door if you're going to class or something, but i would lock it if you (and your roommate) will be gone for several days. laptops and desktops, buy locks. i've heard of people stealing computer ram, not specifically nu, just any dorm-life in general. other than that, people aren't going to come into your room and lug your playstation, monitor, or comforter away.

i lived in the Foster-Walker Complex this summer, aka Plex and their were 4 robberies their.

usc had a student safe pilot program last year. they invited 4 companies to install their product. university safe co was the overwhelming choice. they have a safe that installs on the wall and only sticks out 5". you can recharge cellphones and laptops while they are locked inside. also has a dropslot for mail, cd's ect. it has a digital keypad with no keys. it can be seen at notebooksafe.com. the co offered to install one for each student for $105.00 per year per student. it has a corkboard-mirror on the front.

noah40day,

that's available at NU?

Does anything lock at all in the rooms? Like a desk drawer or something?

Nope, nothing at all

Thanks admit for the answer. That's kinda weird I think..that nothing locks. So...what do you do with cash, credit cards, gift certificates (got some for graduation that I'm saving...like Bed Bath and Beyond in case I need soemthing).

Any tips appreciated.

"SKOKIE--Former Northwestern basketball player Brandon Lee appeared in court Wednesday (AUGUST 10), represented by a public defender, on charges of burglary and credit-card fraud charges.

University Police arrested Lee, 19, a former McCormick freshman, Aug. 1 in Peoria, Ill., his hometown.

Lee will no longer play for the NU basketball team, NU announced after his arrest, not specifying a reason. He was suspended from the team twice this year, once in January and once in February, for unspecified violations of team rules. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 1.6 points and 7.9 minutes per game

Police think he and Jessica L. McElroy, 20, stole electronics and credit cards from Foster-Walker Complex on several occasions in July and used the credit cards to make online purchases, said Al Cubbage, vice president for university relations.

Those purchases were sent to McElroy's apartment, where police arrested her July 26. UP and Peoria police arrested Lee after McElroy said he was her accomplice, Cubbage said."

-BE CAREFUL!

Geez.....that's really awful. So what do people advise to keep things safe. Of course you can lock your laptop....but what about small things?

Just pray and don't get on the basketball team. LOL. What dorm are you, primab?

Willard...any basketball players there? :-)

nope, but even if their were the team is really nice.
