Thematic Option

I consider myself a renaissance scholar with humanist views. Is T.O. right for me or is it, as they say, a surefire way to kill your GPA. Thanks

Do what you would enjoy, not what affects your GPA.

take it if you want to do the work and if it interests you.

i am doing it (i think i have to- rhp..). it sounds like fun, take a look at the reading lists on the website...

I'm in TO, and actually, I consider it a GPA-booster. There's a lot of reading involved, but it's an unspoken general "rule" that no one really gets anything below a B in TO or TO writing classes.

^ yeah thats what i thought.. also i've heard that TO classes are not graded on a curve therefore as long as you do good work you'll get a grade to reflect that

Yup :) Not to mention that the TO office, in general, picks professors who are interesting and knowledgeable. Most classes are enjoyable.

i am SO excited for TO!

How do you do TO?

how selective is TO, btw? online it says that only those who are invited may apply; does that mean that people who received the invitation have already been unofficially selected? or are they sending this out to everyone?

Pretty much everyone who is invited is accepted.

I got the invite too--so you all think if I got to USC I oughta go for it?

there's less than 200 students accepted though..are you sure everyone invited gets accepted? i didnt even qualify for the presidental/trustee scholarships (but i did receive the deans) and i got an invitation. can anyone claify?

Hahaha, I didn't get Trustee, Presidential, or Dean's, and I was invited to both TO and FSH.

Keep in mind that not everyone who was accepted to TO ends up going to USC.

As far as I know, if you apply, you will most likely get in. They only send invitations to highly qualified applicants anyway.

I think TO is definitely something that everyone should consider. Some might not be up to the heavy workload, but there are definitely benefits to being in it. If you have any specific questions about it, feel free to send me a PM.

Right now USC is one of three schools at the top of my list. I haven't heard back from the other two yet, but if I go to USC I definitely want to do TO. However, are they less likely to select candidates for TO if you check the box that says you are not sure where you're going for college yet, but you want to do TO if you go to USC?

i have the same question about that box too.

I totally remember having the same problem. I wrote that I would definitely attend USC, but I don't think they'll count it against you if you mark down that you're not sure. After all, not all of the admissions decisions are done yet.

hmm... i havent gotten an invitation to TO yet. when did people receive them?

^ Mine came today

I received mine on Monday, which might be today depending on the time zone CC uses. Apparently they're sent separately from the admissions decisions, so I'd give it a few more days.

Edit: Beaten by one minute!
