This is a completely theoretical question I just want to see your response, all you need to respond in a one word answer.
If you were to pick someone to lead/start a business, someone to innovate or design a new invention/product, someone to solve a worldwide issue etc etc, would you pick someone with an extremely high gpa, or someone with an extremely high standardized testing score?
I just want to see peoples responses, only one word is necessary: testing or GPA.
This is because testing is usually standardized, while GPA standards vary from school to school. Assuming that everyone was put into the same process of GPA calculation, I would choose GPA, but since that is usually not the case, I have to go with testing.
If 2 candidates were from the same school, I would choose GPA, but since it is most likely that candidates are from different schools, I would definitely choose Testing (as that is standardized and more likely to be an accurate portrayal).
I use my own kids as examples lol in a nice way. My kids are just average intelligence smart kids. They study, work their tail off, nothing comes easy, but they have high GPA 3.8UW++
Course rigor is full AP’s and DC classes.
They won’t be getting 35-36’s and 1550’s and 1600’s.
A few of their friends are those types of kids and they are for lack of a better word just SMARTER/GIFTED. They don’t need to study much, they pick up things at a very fast pace, they have hobbies that are adult level yet are 16-17.
My kids will be great normal career kids, but are they “one of those braniac kids” nope and IMO it is easier to find those types in standardized testing.
ucbalumnus is right. However a standardized test is closer in format to an IQ test and measures an individual’s ability to reason and make judgements based on limited prior knowledge with high risk/reward factor.
My (many words over the one word limit) answer? Testing.
My kid got an awesome business job for the summer by interviewing and showing his portfolio. He has a low college gpa (so far) and they did not ask for scores since his is already in college. For some jobs out there it does not matter gpa or tests scores but what you have proven you can do. Now if you go without much to show as a college graduate I would assume most jobs will look at gpa as very few employers look at SAT for college graduates.
In what contest would an employer look at SAT or GRE scores ? I heard only a few quant jobs are asking for those.
And in what context would someone be asked to lead just in the premises of gpa or scores? Usually you are asked to “lead” because you already have done something outside of schoolwork.
