I'm on the UNC Chapel Hill Directory of Classes and every class that I want, with out a specific time, is full!
And I'm afraid I won't be able to register the classes that I wanted at my August CTOPS!!!

Danny - my son went to a CTOPS during the second week of June and he did not get what he wanted! He was the last group to register that day and he was closed out of almost everything he wanted. He is hoping to change things around during add/drop. He did not get a freshman seminar either.

all the classes will appear full because they open several seats in each one at CTOPS. you may see that every spanish class is closed, but once you get there you'll find a spot.
however, it's true that as a freshman you're not getting first pick, so don't grow too attached to the courses you want and come with tonsss of options! i actually was in one of the last CTOPS groups and luckily got most of the things i wanted, but i think several of my class choices weren't the most popular ways to fill some requirements, so there wasn't as much demand.
also, remember that you have time to fit everything in and if you can't get into a class this semester, it's NOT the end of the world & you can just register for it in the spring!

At CTOPS, you'll get a list of classes to choose from. So don't get too attached to classes you just "look up" online. Realistically, there is not much to choose from. Just try and be flexible, and don't panic. Drop/Add should fix major schedule issues. Registering for classes at CTOPS is just kind of a disaster... for everyone. ; )

The Directory of Classes is not accurate. It says classes are full when they aren't, and sometimes it says there are only 2 spaces in each FYS which reflects the amount per CTOPS session. You have a good chance of getting some classes you want if you get an early registration session, or you could be screwed like I was where you're in the last registration group and have a flag delaying you even further....I'm not bitter.

I have the August 14-15 CTOPS and I'm in the 16th session. Is that a good?

You don't find out your group number until you get there. Unless they changed it...

Don't worry too much if you don't get a FYS. If not, you'll get priority to get one for spring semester.

first year seminar is?

danny_125 where have you been?

hey lost brother of mine!
I've been helping out mom and dad. How about you?

We missed you!

...lmfao!!!

First year seminars are classes open to only freshmen. They cap at like, 21 people or something and are usually pretty interesting and laid back.
First Year Seminars @ UNC at Chapel Hill

The drop/add period at the beginning of semester will see spaces in many classes open up. So hold in there!

Add/drop solves nearly everything!

haha i remember registering for classes. I had an 8 AM every morning, and 4 classes on MWF on top of work study. Hope you all have as much fun as I did!

Yep, registering for classes was definitely an experience. Especially when there's nothing left to choose from and people are RUNNING to computers. Thank God it's not like that every semester!

so i just got back from ctops
NO math and science classes i can/should take were available. literally.
my sched is a bunch of philosophy, history, english, which could be a problem since im planning on applying to the bschool. good luck to all you guys who haven't registered yet

Well, shark90, keep in mind that several of those classes are going to fulfill the GenEd requirements... philosophy definitely, and potentially some other history/ social studies courses. It's far from wasted time.

And to everyone still concerned: DROP/ADD CAN RESOLVE SO MANY CONCERNS

I'm so nervous about other add/drop thing. is it going to be totally crazy with the number of openings constantly changing, esp at 7am on Aug 4?
I want to sign up for Biol 101 but they're all closed right now. (hopefully it'll change) and the 101H is open, but don't you need special permission for honors classes? I haven't taken AP bio so I don't think I can do that....
