There's no way this kid got into USC with...

Ok so I was talking to some kid at lunch the yesterday (he was shadowing someone at our school), and we were talking about colleges. The kid came from a public school and was talking about how easy it is to get into college and that he's "not sweating it".

First, he started bragging about his older sister who supposedly got into NYU with a 3.5 GPA and only a 1300 on the old SAT w/ just basic ECs. This was a couple years ago, so I said ok, w/e.
THEN, he tries to tell me that his older bro just got into USC this past fall with a 20-something on the new sat and a freaking 3.2 GPA and apparently he worked a lot and did volunteer work as well. There's no way this kid got into USC with a 3.2 am I right?

I guess it's not a big deal, I just hate when people feel the need to brag about their family (let alone themselves) getting into college. NYU and USC aren't ivies, but there's no reason for the kid to be calling them joke schools, when I highly doubt anyone he knows got into them.

Unless you know him as a lier, there isn't a reason to doubt him. Although those numbers are not very high, private schools take a lot of things into consideration and not just grades and SAT's. 3.2 and 2000 is possible for USC, a high reach but possible.
