There's nothing interesting about my life

Okay, I got a shiny piece of paper. I got a heavy pen. I sat down on a chair in the study room. I looked down on the bright paper. I put the pen on the paper…Nothing. All this time, I had nothing to write. I pondered about my life, and nothing is interesting about my life.

Academic-cliche…Community service-cliche…Summer programs/research-cliche…Interest-cliche. No deceased parents or grandparents. One pet killed by my sibling (he was only 3) but didn’t affect me. Traveled to many places but only in 2 countries. No physical obstacles to overcome. No tournaments or championships. No discrimination or “outcast” feelings.

I tried to brainstorm and made a terrible list. Maybe I can write about an art class in 7th grade and how I learned about myself as I drew myself. Maybe I can write about traveling to a specific place and how it affected me. Maybe I can write about National Youth Leadership Conference and how I grew personally (I doubt I write 500 words). Maybe I can write about a hard class course and how I pushed myself. Maybe I can write about staying with my dad at work when I was a kid and inspired me to major in a specific field.

What about you? What topics do you have in your mind? What are you writing about? How do you pick a topic?

<p>write about how u cant write an essay about urself becuase ur boring....jk uhh just right about the thing u feel most comfortable with dont try to impress the adcoms with an amazing essay about an amazing story that really didnt have an impact on ur life becuase they will realize it and would rather see an essay that reflects ur personality</p>

<p>i think he realizes that, but even then, its hard to be so comfortable with yourself that you know what is comfortable to write about..</p>

<p>maybe i can just talk about high school and how i grew from freshman to now?</p>

<p>I know how you feel. Sometimes I've wished for a near-death experience to give myself a better topic.</p>

<p>I like the art class idea, it sounds interesting. It leaves a lot of room for making things up.</p>

<p>I personally, am going with the cliche appreciation of my heritage and my parents sacrafices...but I'm wrapping it up in describing my experiences donating blood and support for the cause.</p>

<p>I'm trying to make the execution of the essay interesting. For instance, my intro implies that I am not donating blood, but doing intravenous drugs.</p>

<p>"As the needle hovers above my arm, I remember my first time. I was only a little younger than I am now, but infinitely more foolish. I had no business getting to that sort of situation, and I suffered through the consequences. In a way, I'm still suffering."</p>

<p>hehe.</p>

<p>A college essay isn't about having some crazy experience like nothing anybody else has ever experienced before. It isn't your fault nothing totally out of the ordinary has ever happened to you. Your job now is to take a regular topic and MAKE it interesting.</p>

<p>There seem to be a lot of these "I'm so boring what can I write about" threads for some reason these days. The essay is as exciting as you make it.</p>

<p>Just write. If you can write, it won't matter. I didn't write about anything life changing and I got in fine to my schools.</p>

<p>If you can't write about anything interesting that has happened, write about what you want to do in the future. You know, become an insurance agent in Peoria who bowls on the weekend.</p>

<p>semiserious was exactly right. You don't have to write about an "official" topic. In fact that would probably backfire b/c admissions officers get so bored reading the same thing after another. Write about some little incident in your life and write about it in a such a way that all of a sudden it appears that it could not possibly have happened to anyone else.</p>
