fooshy

oh i have family from fremont!

yeah i went to st. francis hs... i live in the mountain view/los altos area.

fooshy

lol wow, my stepsister went to St. Francis, she did theater all 4 years there

fremont!! haha

honestly, i thought the exact same thing for a long time (up until this year). but then i went up to visit some old friends and its all about the people. i met a buncha peeps who made the saturday night better than most here in the bay.

soudns good :D

I live in Davis, went to Davis schools K-2 and 8-12, and I'm going to UCD as well. There is plenty to do in Davis. The Grad is a great place where college students hang out. There are always activities at the ARC on campus. Tons of parks and several arenas for sporting events. There's a skate park if that's what you're into. Plenty of bars. Freeborn Hall hosts concert several ties each year drawing some pretty big names (Bob Dylan, Mos Def, etc). During the school year, there are parties pretty much every Friday and Saturday, too. You just have to know people who host/go to them and where to find them. Frat Row always hosts parties and keg crawls. (There are keg crawls downtown too.) Theta Chi has some pretty awesome parties and host concerts of their own, too. Some performers they've had include Zion I and Mistah F.A.B.
If you want to go someplace: SF is 1.5 hours away, Sac about 15 minutes, Santa Cruz 2 hours, Tahoe 2 hours.
Whoever says there's nothing to do in Davis is a pretty boring person. Hang out with people who actually do things and you'll have fun every night.
If you want to have fun in Davis, you will; If you mope around and complain about how there's nothing to do, you'll be bored. It's all up to you.

UCD also has a shuttle to Cal's library that goes back and forth atleast once a day. Davis has a really nice crepe restaurant right off campus. How could any Californian hate Oldtown Sacramento??? I'm from the east bay - specifcally the oakland/berkely area- so Davis is the perfect distance. Its far enough from home that I can live my own life and feel like I'm going away for real college, but close enough to drive home or take the capitol corridor back to home on certain weekends (to see my family/friends and to catch the raiders football games this fall lol).

Mistah Fab and Zion I were ridiculous at Theta Chi this year, Afroman was pretty sick at Theta Xi too.

Ill reiterate, fun isn't going to come pounding on your door, unless of course you got a frat bid, cause that's what they do sometimes, lol

You want fun, be a fun person, and you're set.

Of course, if you get tight with professors and grad students you can always chill with them too. This is california, many of the profs and TA's are stoners just like the students, and a lot of em are some pretty cool people.

Today I went back up to Davis in preparation for transfering in this fall. I walked arround the town and had fun. I took the train up and back down from Jack London Sq. to Davis. The whole time I was in Davis I was thinking to myself if you can't have fun in a college town where there are a ton of young people and the townies here are actually a lot like those in berekley minus the crazy protesting random causes everyday, what could satisfy you? Though, I do understand its not for everyone. I can't wait to move into my new apartment.

There are all sorts of fun things to do. Today there was an anti cancer benefit at the log cabin, with free wine (if your over 21) and goodies. Davis, has all sorts of fun door stuff to do. Its great becuase the people in the stores and arround town may one day know my name, but its not like a town of 100 people so you see the same people everyday or theres nothing to do within an hour away. Downtown was buzzing tonight! BTW Try Yoga's, that place is great!!!

It is time to bump this thread up. :D

band shows at the coffee house (i think they’re trying to set up a new venue just for performances)

sports events: we’re not great yet, especially in football/basketball. But watching them improve, and they are, is a lot of fun too. Plus going in with the Aggie Pack is something else.

IM sports… I haven’t done it but I am itching to

You can’t tell me you can’t find a party in Davis

The Grad has a different theme every night: country, student night, sports nights, etc. etc.

The arboretum is a good place to jog or just walk around and enjoy your surroundings

I actually really like our local/independent stores downtown. I much prefer this than to have all big-box retail, and anything else that I can find elsewhere.

They’re building a new shopping center in Woodland and it’s only a 10-15 minute drive north.

Sacramento is so close… plenty to do there.

Lots of shops and restaurants have karaoke nights and such

There are bars around…

It’s not “oh my goodness there’s so much to do here that I wish I could stay here forever”, but it is definitely not below average as many people claim.

sorry to all you davis kids who are getting annoyed at all these questions about the social scene at uc davis. you guys have to forgive me, especially because not only am i OOS, i’m also out-of-country. i’ve used to live in NYC/LA and i currently live in shanghai.

a couple questions:

 1. does it really matter whether or not we have cars? like does not having a car = socially dead?
 2. is uc davis a really wet campus? i’m not exactly a prude, but i’m not exactly fond of seeing people puke all over the place / hearing people yell stupid things in the middle of the night.
 3. what specifically is there to do around uc davis?
 4. what’s sacramento like? sorry i’ve only lived in socal before. i know absolutely nothing about norcal.

ty! :)

1) As a freshman, I will tell you that it does help if you have a car and friends to go other places for social reasons, but it is not necessary.
2) In the dorm areas at least, you shouldn’t be hearing/seeing that many drunks
3) My friends and I love exploring the town, going to the farmer’s market, playing sports for recreation, etc. it really is what you make of it.
4) I’m from socal as wel and I must say that Sacramento is like a rural version of L.A.; much smaller and quieter but still a city I guess lol.

i thought freshmen arent allowed to have cars?
is there a way to get around that?

It’s best to dorm in Cuarto if you want to have a car. You have to park your car on the street and the parking is limited. You can’t get on campus parking, but you won’t need it.

A lot of people bike and take the free unitrans/yolo buses (with id card). A fair numbern have cars, but walking and transportation is common here.

It seems pretty dry except for at the frat houses on some friday nights. However, the school itself is dry and its not very common to see someone drinking on campus.

Theres the arbordiuim, a great place to walk and explore nature. The are a lot of yummy restaurants. There is the mondavi center which gives new freshman and transfers free tickets (the season that corasponds with their first year on campus). Mondavi is amazing, lots of shows and concerts.

Sacramento is a nice town, espcially oldtown, which modles gold rush era sacramento (tho very touristy). There are some good museums. The state capitol is in Sac. The summer gets really hot, but the rest of teh year, the weather is very plesant.

lol theres plenty of parties and fights…
