There's only so much help we can give - chances posts

hi everybody,

it seems as though every time i come onto this board, somebody else is asking us their chances. honestly, if we knew what your chances were we would know our own and we wouldnt be on here going "AH!!! I WANNA GET ACCEPTED!!" Asking us isnt going to do you a whole lot of good, we're only kids. There are college kids and parents in the Chances Forum who might actually be able to give you a useful answer or good advice about improving your chances. Really, we are a friendly bunch, we'll chat with you in the "or" thread and the "SCEA" thread and the other threads with random names that are full of cookies and cakes and various other forms of dessert, but we can't help you with your chances. we would if we could. feel free to get essay advice from us in the essay thread, the first one or the second one, (it think there are only two, there might be more),. Im really not trying to be the mean older sister, i dont mean any of this in an angry or peeved way, i really really dont, but there is nothing we can do for chances posters. best of luck to everybody with their SATs and SAT IIs and APs and IBs and A-levels and, um, lets see, finals and midterms and competitions and essays and applications... phew, thats a lot. :)

haha. yes i totally agree. and when people get rejected we'll cry with you, and when people get accepted we'll congratulate you. read these other posts. IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET INTO YALE. no one seems to know what they're looking for. 25 days for EA! Good luck! :)

Thanks victoria, that needed to be said. Ditto on all the good lucks :)

Thank you very much. I hope people read this before they post their chances threads.

Yeah, good points everyone.

Another point: Asking your chances after you've been accepted is pointless, there is nothing that can be done at that point.

Why would someone ask their chances AFTER being accepted? Sounds crazy to me!

I must say though, that this year, the number of chances threads, at least in the Yale board, is MUCH lower than they were last year. :)

I think celebrian meant "after having APPLIED"...that would make more sense

hey whats my chance? i have 1490 sat 1.

Well, you know...people who ask their chances and who have 14XX sats, I dont mind that much. But those people who post who are like...

I have a 4.6 GPA unweighted, 1600 SAT, 3x800 SAT IIs. What's my chance?

THOSE people pi ss me off like no other

haha. good words Victoria.

Forgive me, I am a chances kid. I will run and hide and go back to the other boards, where everyone is much more worried and uptight and also much less condescending.

Sometimes, people aren't getting help from their parents or guidance counselors and they just want advice.

Jellybean, that's fairly valid. Nonetheless, the place for that is in the 'What are my chances?' Forum.

by the way, what do you think my chances are? 4.0 GPA unweighted, 1st in class, 1580 SAT I

SATII's: MathIIC 740, Chem 760, Writing 780

Good point, lindseyujh. However, the "what are my chances" forum isn't school-specific. People go to specific school sites because they feel others interested in the same school may have a better idea of what type of student gets in or have advice based on personal experience.

SAT is a little low - try to bump that up.

True. Nonetheless, many people respond to chances threads in that forum that are school specific.

Right again! I cede the point.

Who cares if people ask what their chances are for getting into Yale in this forum. It's not like you have to read their posts if you don't want to read them.

nilyaran101-------you've got a point there
No one has to read them OR reply. I'm sure that if the people who have problems with the "chances" posts being in the Yale thread did that they wouldn't be upset about it.
