Thanks in advance for reading this.
I applied to UIUC ED and I was deferred. I applied to the Biology-LAS major and I just had a couple of questions.

Stats:
Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
Gender: Male
Location: Chicago, Illinois
ACT: 28, Essay: 10
APs: World History: 3(Sophomore year), US History: 5, English Language: 4, and for senior APs there's AP Latin Vergil, AP Bio, AP Calc, AP Eng Literature, AP Euro History.
All my other classes in high school have been honors.
GPA: Unweighted: 89.7% All class all high school 93-100=A, 85-92=B etc etc.
-Does Not Rank-
ECs
Varsity Debate Captain: 4 years, National Tournament Semi-Finalist.
Soccer: 2 Years
Varsity Drama/Theater: 4 years
Volunteer at a Summer Day Camp for Autistic Children: 4 years, 100+ hours
Newspaper: 2 years
School Tutoring: 4 Years
Chess Team: 4 Years
Yearbook: 2 Years
Medical Shadowing: 1 Year

Both my essays had 3 drafts each and I feel were very well done. But isn't that what everyone says?

School Type: It's a Private Catholic School that's 6-12th grades with 280 students and about 40 Seniors. It is really competitive and I have taken the maximum course load (Higher math and language classes).

From the brief overview of my stats, where was I flawed? What should I have done or changed? And why, why, why.

If you guys need anymore information, let me know

While you said your school doesn't rank, a sub 90% average is a little low (even unweighted). Also, a 28 isn't that impressive for UIUC, not that it will stop you from getting in eventually, but it's not totally surprising you didn't get in EA. I would say you still have a good shot on getting in eventually though. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure JR526 pinpointed it on the ACT and grade average. Is a 90% around a 3.6?
Although they deffered you this time, your stats aren't horrible and will probably be good enough to get you through.

Brianm, no a 90% wouldn't necessarily mean a 3.6. My school also goes on 100% scale and there's no really consistent/accurate way to convert.

Aashiv, it could happen that they permit you to LSA, but not biology, or just to UIUC but maybe offer you a spot in Gen Studies or something, I don't know.

I got a 29 on the Act and have a 3.5 gpa (one of the best public schools in California) and got turned down from the business school and placed in the school of applied sciences with a major in sports management. I was a little shocked at first to see that I was in applied sciences because of how different it is than business (hoping for economic major or something), but I wrote in one of my statements how I wanted to be a sports agent and they were thoughtful enough to find something somewhat related to what I want to do. I am sure when you get accepted they'll put you in something thats not completely off the wall.

Alright so from what I can see it wasn't so much of a surprise that I didn't get into EA. But, that doesn't mean I won't get in regular. I wrote them a thank you note for considering me and I wanted to know what other ideas you have that I could add to it?
