These are kind of stupid questions, but

1: As an incoming materials engineering major, are these all the classes I need to graduate or is there more? http://mate.calpoly.edu/media/uploads/MATE11-13Flowchart.pdf

2: How does AP credit work at SLO? If I send them my AP scores, is that all I need to do?

3: When does course registration begin and how does it work?/How is it determined when you are able to register?

No one answered my questions, but I figured it would be better to post here again rather than start a new thread. I am still curious about #2 & #3 though.

I have another question: do housing costs differ based on what dorm building you’re assigned to (excluding Cerro Vista)?

The housing should be the same for all the regular dorms, unless you stay in a triple. It’s less.

A better version of what you need to graduate is here:http://mate.calpoly.edu/media/files/curriculum_sheet_2009-2011.pdf</a> But both links should tell you everything you need.

To find out what AP score you need for credit, go here: http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_records/Degree_Progress/articdoc/apcred2011.pdf</a> And yes, you do just send scores to them and they sort it all out. AP credit at Cal Poly is disgustingly generous compared to UCs, so be thankful for that at least (You’ll need it as an engineer =P)

Registration is blocked into registration cycles depending on your last name. These cycles determine when you are allowed to start registering for classes, and they change every quarter. After a certain amount of time, open registration starts, which means everyone can register for anything they want. As an incoming freshman, you’ll be automatically blocked into classes that the university thinks you should take, so don’t worry too much about that, although if you feel like your classes don’t fit, you can register/drop classes during open registration (Which is August 20 for fall quarter), which is a fairly straightforward process.

Unless there has been a change, when you take your AP tests this year, there will be a place on the test form to put Cal Poly as your school and all test scores will automatically be sent to them (even scores from past years).

I have a question that’s a bit specific, but I emailed Cal Poly around a week ago and they haven’t responded.

If I will be taking General Chemistry II at a CCC which transfers to Cal Poly according to ASSIST over the summer, will this be taken into account when I am registered for fall classes? I will be sending a transcript from the CCC at the end of July when the class ends.

Also, is there a limit to AP credit and does it vary according to your major or is that chart for AP credit applicable to all majors?

AP credit is the same for everyone, but it depends on your major whether or not it actually matters towards graduation, I doubt there’s an AP limit, and if there is, it is extraordinarily high. I know a few people who already have junior standing in their freshman year, and personally I will be entering my second year with senior standing because of AP credit.

I wouldn’t really know about how CCC credits transfer, but you can always just swap out classes later on.
