So I'm planning on applying to Princeton next year...and I honestly don't think I'll get in. But I thought I'd get other opinions...so anyways here we go:

I am a girl and mexican and interested in engineering (btw does the race/gender help...?)
UW GPA: 3.97ish
W GPA: 4.68
Class rank: none in my school

sat: 2260
780 CR, 770 Math, 710 W
sat II: 750 Bio M and 750 math 2

Most likely PSAT commended scholar

AP's: 5 in Bio, US Hist, and Art Hist; 4 in Chem (disappointing...)

Taken honors all my life and lots of ap's; I've gotten straight A's (no A-) in every single class except in APUSH--1st semester B+, 2nd B-

Senior year I'm taking:
1. AP Calc BC
2. AP Comp
3. AP Spanish 5
4. AP Physics Mech
5. AP Gov
6. AP Econ

The last 3 are semester classes; the other 3 classes I'm taking don't really count ( they're requirements): speech, health, and ceramics

EC's:
Science olympiad since 7th grade; won medals at state competition
Also was inJETS, envirothon (both are also part of academic team)
likely academic team captain next year (?)
Orchestra since 4th grade; Section leader for 3 years
Teach private lessons, was in all state orchestra, won performer of the year award
I volunteer here and there
I'm in DECA and got top 20 in the nation

I've done a lot of other random EC's, but I'm planning on focusing on academic team and orchestra, since those are my passions, and DECA too since I did well.

Soo any thoughts?

Given your race, interests, and hard stats, you have very strong chances.

Yeah, since you are a minority (that’s not Asian) and your test scores are all pretty strong, I think you have a good chance of getting in.

yeah…if u were an asian applicant u’d have 10% chance of getting in. but since ur hispanic you have a 70-80% chance of getting in.

I totally disagree. She would have a decent chance even if she weren’t a URM; the URM makes it solid.

I was in science olympiad since 6th grade and won national medals. i just had to ‘one up’ that.

Lol, I actually got one national medal in 7th grade, a silver, but that doesn’t really count since it was so long ago. But congrats on your medals?
But anyways–thanks for all of the feedback

HSJuniorgirl, you have a decent chance at getting accepted. You might also want to apply to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT and a couple of other ivies as well as Amherst and Williams - and, of course, Purdue - your home state school. Then, altogether, you would have a great chance that you would get into at least one of these great schools.

Why would you think you wouldn’t get in? Excellent test scores and excellent extracurriculars.

Johnadams–Yep, I’m planning on applying at Purdue also, and Rice…I’m not sure where else, but maybe a couple of your suggestions. The real issue is money, which is why I’m looking at Princeton (i know their endowment is enormous)
Engineerjw–Well Princeton is one of the most selective in the country! I’m sure people with even better stats than mine get rejected

Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Stanford also have excellent financial aid.

I honestly don’t think you’ll get in.

Btw you’re right, these are really annoying.

kthx newb
& about MIT…i know that it isn’t affordable to my family already because my sibling got in this year, and we did the aid estimator, and we would’ve had to pay over 40K a year…

Blowing off any viewpoint that doesn’t fall perfectly in line with what you want to hear is the surest way to prove that you aren’t intellectually mature enough to attend a school like Princeton.

newest newb, why don’t you enlighten us a bit and tell us why you stated that the OP will not get accepted at Princeton

then also tell us why you proceeded to insult the OP.

thanks

I don’t recall blowing off any viewpoints…
But anyways, thanks for all of your opinions
& i’m pretty new to this forum; is there any way to close threads?

no, i believe NN is wrong here. Given you are mexican, its much more likely u get in than not. Now if you were not hispanic, I’d prbly bet against you.

rtgrove, not only the Hispanic bent, but the female engineer - not as many of those around.
