These are the schools I'm applying to -- what are my chances?

Hi everyone!

My name is Gabby & I’m going to be a senior in the fall. I’ve narrowed down my college choices and was wondering if you all could check them out and tell me if these are good choices based on my grades, extracurriculars, awards, and the like. Here are my colleges, in no order:

  • Bates College, Lewiston, ME -- SAT opt. (will not be submitting) and 100% need met
  • College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA -- SAT opt. (will not be submitting) and 100% need met
  • Stonehill College, Easton, MA -- SAT opt. (will not be submitting) and 93% need met
  • Union College, Schenectady, NY -- SAT opt. (will not be submitting) and 100% need met
  • UMass Amherst, Amherst, MA -- 80% need met but I am in-state

Here are my personal stats (as of what I know, right now)

URM status: Puerto Rican
First-generation college student
Identify as an independent student on the FAFSA because I’ve been a ward of the state since January, therefore, the only financial information they look at is mine (slim to none)

GPA: 4.2
Class rank: 48/958 (or very close to that number)
Took the most advanced courses available to me freshman & sophomore years; freshman year was honors everything (Geometry, Chinese II, Freshman English, Freshman World History, & Biology) & sophomore year was honors everything (Algebra II, Chinese III, Sophomore English, & Chemistry) plus AP US History, the only AP course offered to sophomores, junior year I took Honors Precalculus, IB Chinese SL, IB English HL, IB 20th Century History: Communism in Crisis HL, and Honors Oceanography, and senior year I’m taking AP Statistics, IB Chinese SL, IB English HL, IB History HL, and Honors Physics
I work as a Special Education Counselor at the summer program held at my school for special needs students 18hrs/wk during the summer, and as a customer representative at a dry cleaning facility ranging from 13-25hrs/wk all year
Teach first grade rel. ed
TA of ninth & tenth grade rel. ed
Cantor at my parish
Member of Teen Choir at my parish
Altar server at my parish
Consecutive honor roll every term since freshman year
NHS Treasurer since junior year, inducted junior year also
Member of my school’s club similar to Best Buddies
Nominated to be a Posse scholar
Won the St. Timothy Award from the Archdiocese of Boston

Am I enough for these schools? Also, are there any other schools I should apply to? (ones similar to those listed please). I want to major in Politics/PoliSci in college. Thank you!

Definitely enough for those schools, assuming you have a 1900+ GPA

@JessicaWang what does that mean?

I think she meant SAT.

You should take SAT ASAP because college applications take quite a lot of time.

I know the colleges you listed are test optional. However, here is the thing; they may not hold against you for not submitting SAT, but they may be more willing to take you if you have good SAT score. Plus, if you are also interested in merit scholarship, you MUST have SAT/ACT because merit scholarships in general are heavily dependent on number.

@Paul2752,

I am going to take the SATs again October 3, but my original SAT score from June is an 1800: 690 CW, 670 CR, 440 M, which is why I will not be submitting it. I am going to try again in the fall but am not sure how much higher I can get my math score as that is my weakest subject.
