Thespian festival offers

So has anyone had experience with their child (or themselves) getting a MT offer from their Thespian Festival? I wondered how common this is, as a friend of ours got an offer from a school mentioned on this forum at her festival she attended this month. She’s a senior of course.

My d received several acceptances from her auditions at the International Thespian Festival in Nebraska and at our local regional audition (there are three major regional auditions held in Texas in November: the North Texas Drama Auditions, the Greater Houston Area Auditions, and the Greater San Antonio Auditions). Many of her classmates from their high school also received acceptances at these auditions, so, yes, I would say it is fairly common to receive offers at these events (or via email shortly afterward). However, most of these acceptances were for acting or MT programs that do not attend Unifieds and are not listed at the top of this forum. I would guestimate that it is fairly rare to receive an acceptance to an MT program posted at the top of this forum at one of these events.

Hmm. At my D’s festival this year a guy got an offer and yes it was from a school not on the list here. However the girl we know got her offer from a school on the list posted up top. Cool for her I guess!

I forgot that there are a couple of programs posted at the top of this forum that do give out offers regularly at these events, so I should have said, “With a couple of exceptions, I would guesstimate that it is fairly rare to receive an acceptance to an MT program posted at the top of this forum at one of these events.”

It’s ok @EmsDad I know what you meant . I’m sure it doesn’t happen often. This girl is quite talented at MT in many aspects. I wasn’t surprised she got an offer already. Such a load off her to have in her back pocket while she’s still auditioning!

Agree @Emsdad - likely rare. We are aware of a couple of instances at one last year in which junior students misinterpreted interest for an offer. A couple of the schools were just using it as a type of “pre-screen” and inviting kids to come audition the next year.

Yes @crc500 this is what I am familiar with like at SETC we knew kids who got out of prescreens etc. that’s it though and of course the school showed interest and created a relationship with the student so to speak. So that’s why I was like " cool an actual offer to a senior at thespian festival"! She is a MT powerhouse sorta though . She really doesn’t have any weak link in singing acting or dancing! Lol I’m sure she’ll have more offers here in March .

My d got two BFA MT acceptances at our state thespians convention based on her scholarship audition, and several BFA acting offers with scholarships. (None from the “big” name schools, but she isn’t pursuing the uber competitive schools.) We were very surprised. We are actually visiting one of the schools that wasn’t on our list previously.

My D auditioned at Illinois Theatre Festival a few weeks ago. She received “call backs” from a lot of schools. Those ranged from interest in her to pursue the school and future auditions to actual scholarships and admittance into the theatre school if she applies. Some schools were BFAs and most were BAs in Acting. We looked at it as a positive reaction to one song and monologue. Some schools are pursuing heavily, but are not on her radar because she really wants the BFA route at a university. It was well worth the $20 fee to audition for over 30 schools in one 2 minute slot.

My D received several call backs in Nebraska and these schools have kept in touch up to the audition season, urging her to apply. She received 1 acceptance and scholarship, but not to a school on the list above. The rest were “were interested keep in touch, apply and audition” notices but these are smaller, lesser known programs. As a side note, my D loved Nebraska! She had a great time and I would urge anyone interested to attend.
