They HAVE used the waitlist in the last four years!

<p>Ok, I just read on one of Matt's blog entries that they hadn't used the waitlist in the last three years (the article was written in 06). But I personally know somebody who was admitted in 04 off the waitlist. Why would MIT say they haven't?</p>

<p>From the rest of the Common Data Sets for the 3 years previous to the one Matt writes about, there were 0, 1, and 0 people accepted from the waitlist. Last year (which data isn't available on that page yet) there were 30. It's not a predictive thing.</p>

<p>they've made it a policy to attempt to use the waitlist more when they realized they were letting in 0 people off the waitlist (a bad thing since it means that you can accidentally overshoot and admit too many people), this year should have 30 or more people come off the waitlist.</p>
