I called the University of Miami, Fla. 1 day before they were supposed to send out decisions (April 14, 2005) and asked them if everything was ok with my application, if they had mailed it yet, and if they would give my my decision on the phone. They said that I had not completed my application so they were unable to review it and no decision had been made. Apparently they only had my highschool transcript and SAT scores. I went to the college office at my highschool the next day and told them what happened. We looked through my file, and Miami had returned me a postcard 2 weeks after i sent in my application for regular decision that said “We have received your application, highschool transcript, SAT scores, 3 letters of recomendation, 2 essays, and your resume”. My college counselor and I called them back to tell them that we have record of them receiving my application. Apparently they lost it. They said that I could fax them the information (essays, resume… etc) and then they would review my application.
Has this happened to anyone? will it affect my decision in any way? what do i do?

This is the first time I heard anything like this happening!
I say that this'll increase your chance of admission. They don't want anyone suing cause they might think that they were at a disadvantage. :D

I called in the middle of March because all my friends were hearing back and they said they had never received my transcripts (even though I'm 99% positive that we sent them). Anyways, I faxed my transcripts to them and ended up getting my decision and a 3/4 tuition scholarship the next week.

So, the moral of the story: all is not lost.

thats totally their fault... i sent my SAT scores TWICE to Cornell and still they said i didnt send them anything. the same happened to my transcription to Colby, but the admission offices seem to keep things better when you fax them instead of mail them.

Well I hope I do get in. I sent my application in today with everything else and my college counselor called them to let them know that Miami is my first choice so if I get in, thats where I will be going. I'll let you all know what happens when i find out. But i better get a response soon (before May 1), before i have to send my decision to UGA....

princeton lost my friends application 3 years ago and she made a big deal out off it and they landed up accepting her. although she was a pretty good candidate, she didnt expect to be accepted.

this is probably going to work in ur favour

I think SUNY Purchase NY lost my sons application. He even went for an interview ages ago. Not a word. In my opinion speaks volumes, while they lost the application, my son lost interest in them

maimi seemed extremely unorganized. I had called them early april to ask when decisions were out and I got a student, and he goes "Honestly things are really hectic here, they probably wont be done till april 15th and will be sent out the same day..." I didnt really feel like they knew what they were doing, nor did i feel like they actually reviewed all the applications. It was very detached and they had no idea about me (the student). They said my file was in review and unnatainable right now .. whatever that means

The school lost it or the postal people lost it? I am always getting damaged packages and they lost one once. How do you lose a cardboard box bigger than a baby?

I HATE UNIVERSITIES ARE SO IRRESPONSIBLE... the VERY FIRST UNIVERSITY THAT I EVER APPLIED TO WAS MIAMI, i even sent part 1 in like, october!!!!!! the rest of all my 15 other applications were sent on january first, the deadline, except UMICH, which i sent on feb1, because that was their deadline. Come to think of it, everything went smoothely.... and i heard back from everywhere except MIAMI... gee it was like my safety, and GOSH... i guess i don't need a safety now anymore since i got in to 5 other places that are ALLL better than miami, but i would like my 40 dollars back....

u guys think i should make a big deal out of it and like file a lawsuit or something against them since they are sooooooooooooooooooo... its like... SCAMMING APPLICATION FEES i wasted $40 good dollars that i could've bought a pair of jeans with. they do NOT deserve to charge application fees... i mean... GOOOOOOD colleges, like Wellesley (where im going nex year), they don't even ASK for an application fee, what right does Miami have to asking for 40 dollars that the president (i assume) probably takes and buys booze with anyhow?
