Today I went to school to empty out my locker. School ended three days ago so I came today and expected everything to be there. I went and attempted to open my locker but it wouldn't open. I had to go all over the school trying to find someone who could help me. First I went to the secretaries office and they told me to go to student relations. I looked through the lost and found and also asked the student relations office for help. She told me to go to the janitor. He wasn't there so I came back and she paged on of the custodians. He said all the lockers were "cleaned" out because they needed to get textbooks from all the lockers to return to the book room. My $100 dollar jacket and $25 tie were "thrown" away. I know this can't be right. Anything in our lockers was supposed to go to the lost and found but supposedly according to this man they were understaffed and had to throw the stuff away. I'm furious and my brother's graphing calculator was thrown away! Who thinks this is unjust and are there any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Did they give notice that the lockers would be cleaned out? I know my school did.

No they gave us absolutely no warning whatsoever. Last year they didn't clean out till a month later!

Complain to the principal or whoever is in control, especially if you had no warning.

you better make those *****es pay up. can your parents help you out?

 its like they threw money away- id tell my mom if i were you..she'd go to the school, cause a scene, and scare them into paying for my stuff with some extra cash for pain and suffering :D

um, why didn't you clean out your locker THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL or before then?

I didn't clean it out because I had to walk to the library after school. I didn't have a ride home so I had to do that. I didn't want to lug it with me. Plus we are instructed to leave the school right after it is done. You can't stay after and if you try to you are escorted out by a security guard!

Something like this happened to me, too. They put in new cabinets for the sports awards (go figure) and in the process tore out a bunch of lockers and relocated them. Mine go relocated because a bunch of freshmen had their lockers put where mine was. I was given no warning, and came in to school the next day to find my locker gone. Luckily my stuff was in a bag in the guidance office, but they had gone through everything and chucked it all (including a very fragile Chinese silk fan) into trash bags.

Anyway...don't take it too quietly. This isn't your fault, and the school is responsible for the damages and losses. Go to the head of the custodial staff, go to the principal, go to the school administrators if the others aren't responsive. If you have to put up with this stuff from them, make them put up with you. Good luck!

thats how it is at my school...except we get ISS once school opens again

at my school if you don't clean it out, they clean it out by throwing everything away. and then they send you a "locker clean-out bill" for $25.

I talked with my mom and she says she's going to call the school tomorrow. I already tried but they sort of blew me off when I went to the school. I think they'll take her a bit more seriously.

Don't let them "blow you off". Speak firmly and demand to be listened to. Either way, since your mom is going to talk to them, they'll start to listen. School administrators don't like arguing with parents, heh.

Yeah, last year I had 2 lockers because I needed to store Chess Club supplies (I was the Chess Club president) and my regular supplies...the end of school came and I forgot to clear out my chess locker...I ended up losing 3 nice chessboards and one chess clock...(about $60 worth).

I was pretty mad at the school but I can't do anything because they threw everything away already (I realized that I haven't cleaned out my locker two weeks into summer). I couldn't blame them though, it was my fault.

to be the antaganist, i honestly think you're the one to blame for the loss of your possessions. school ended three days before you cleaned out your locker, and i'm sure there were plenty of opportunities to clean it out (at least taking a bit home every night) for weeks beforehand.

Ours have to be cleaned out on the last day of school. Our homeroom teachers check lockers and we cannot get our report cards until we are checked off by our teachers.

Wow, that sucks. We have a locker clean out day where we take what we want home and anything we don't want we can just leave in the lockers and they'll throw it out.
