"Thank you for your application to Purchase College. Although all materials have
been received, we cannot make cannot make a final decision until we receive
your current semester grades. At this point your application is pending a
decision. Be sure to have an official transcript that includes the current
semester grades sent to the Purchase College, SUNY Office of Admissions, as
soon as they are available."

The thing is, the semester started A Month and 6 days ago, so there are not alot of grades i can show them at this time. Should i have my teachers fill out a Mid-Term Report, so Purchase knows what my current grade is in each class? is that what they are asking for?

Nope they are asking for a transcript. You just have to send it at the end of the semseter and then cross your fingers and hope for acceptance over the summer.

But won’t that effect my chances of having a spot there? They are filling up really fast, and im afraid that if i send it in at the end of the semester, there won’t be anymore spots. And also, they said they are reviewing it now, im afraid if i wait 2 or 3 weeks, they would think that there is no point in waiting for this person, if they didn’t hand it in by now. The deadline is April 1st, and if i hand it in by then, its too late.

When a school requests an 8th Semester transcript, they will usually reserve a spot for you. If you don’t get in based on the grades you submitted they will give that spot to someone on the waitlist.

They want your FINAL High School Transcript. What this means is that they think that you could be a good student at their school, but they want to make sure that you don’t have senioritis. Once you submit your transcript at the end of the year, unless there are some strange things on it, you will most likely get admitted.

They want your second semester grades. Your grades thus far are not up to par, so if they see an improvement, they’ll admit you, if not, somebody else will take your spot. When they request transcripts, they will usually reserve a spot for you.

@nopsypoo So, if they are saving a spot for me currently, does that mean i can wait until the end of the semester to send in my transcripts? Because currently, my grades are not in the book yet, because it started like pretty much a month ago.

AAH! I see. You don’t really have much of a choice, you are going to have to wait until the end of the semester. You run the risk of your selected program being full, but if your grades are pretty good, you will probably be admitted into general studies.

I recommend going to the Bursar soon and filling out a transcript request form. There will probably be a list of options on when they should release the information, obviously you want them to hold it until this semester’s grades have been processed. Then send it and cross your fingers.

Kind of a funny thread. They won’t give you a decision until they see your Spring grades. At my cc you can set it up online so they will automatically send your transcript when the semester ends. If yours doesn’t have that you just need to request your transcripts be sent as soon as your current semester ends.

They meant current semester not current grades.

“When a school requests an 8th Semester transcript, they will usually reserve a spot for you. If you don’t get in based on the grades you submitted they will give that spot to someone on the waitlist.”

Is this true for college transfer students also?

This happened to me when I went to transfer to University of Texas Austin. First to clear some things up this is standard practice for sophmore transfers at many schools. When you apply as a sophmore transfer they only have one semester of college grades when you apply which is hardly enough to see what type of student you are. Because of this they will often ask for a second semester of grades to determine is you are going to stay on track. In my similar situation I sent in my transcripts for spring semester when they came out and about a month later got a letter stating I was accepted into the Cockrell School of Engineering. So if you get accepted you will probably get accepted into one of the schools within the university that you applied to. Also don’t worry they don’t at this time know how much space will be availible in the sophomore class. Honestly they can only fill in the slots of those that dropped first semester in college atm. Those who drop/change major after their second semester cannot be taken into account until after spring semester grades are out anyway.

@UTPG123 so im guessing it is wise to send the second transcript near the middle of the semester? Are they willing to wait until then to get the transcript, or are they going to kick me off the list if i do not have it in by a certain time? The main thing im worried about, is how long are they willing to wait for my second transcript?

You can’t send until the semester is over, they won’t accept mid-term grades. Just put in the request form early so that grades are sent as soon as they process, which will be at the end of the Spring semester. They know that you won’t be able to send them until May, so that is fine.

Suppose we say the deadline to apply to Purchase, is April 1st.
They told me my application was complete on February 15th, meaning i have already applied to Purchase.
Today, Admissions told me that they are currently reviewing my file (im still not sure what that means or how long they will be doing that for), but they told me that they needed a transcript for this current semester.
I do not have enough grades in the book for them to make a decision.
The deadline of April 1st does not apply to those who already applied, so that means i have until May to send in the transcripts.

BUT:
isn’t May the time all things are already complete, and the deadline for financial information?
by saying they are “pending a decision,” does it mean that my spot is reserved and when i send in my second transcript at the end of the semester, they can’t tell me “oh, sorry we are all filled up, too late?”

You probably have a reserved spot, they are well aware that they will not get your final transcript until May. FAFSA can be filled out now (if you haven’t done it already), and Purchase will allow you extra time to do any of their Financial Aid stuff if you are admitted late.

As far as Financial Aid, it is unlikely that you will get any Finacial Aid Awards unless they are Transfer related because of your late admission, but there is nothing you can do about that.

My recommendation: chill. Universities know how they handle transfers better than any of us. All you need to do between now and June is fill out the FAFSA, and make sure that Purchase gets your final transcript. Remember, SUNY is a pretty big organization, and they deal with thousands of applicants a year, by this point I am sure they are a well-oiled machine and know what is going on. You can always call/email the admissions office if you are unsure of anything.
