I wrote my essay about coming out as a homosexual and how I retain an open mind (I'm a gay, liberal, atheist REPUBLICAN), and basically talked about how it made me more mature and how i value individualism...

SO CHANCE ME, thanks! :-)

how can you be a liberal republican

Liberal Republican is a bit of an oxymoron. Today's party stands for conservative christianity for the most part and some of the conservative tennents that Regean and Goldwater were for.

If you're an atheist and liberal, you are not Republican. At least not most people's defenition of Republican.

lol just give me some chances!!!

Skidmore, maybe
Bard, maybe
Wheaton, maybe
Hampshire & Suffolk - best chances

the rest of your list... well... unlikely...

yale... they're actually two seperate things...

piglette... u don't think i even have a chance at brandeis???

If I read your essay as an admissions officer, I would do the following.

laugh

re-read essay

laugh harder

burn essay

stamp and mail rejection letter

Good thing I'm not an admissions officer.

Don't know enough about Brandeis to offer an informed opinion. I should have said so, instead of lumping it with the "unlikelies." My apologies.

These are only my personal guesses, anyway, and who voted me an expert?

Good luck!

the only schools that will be difficult for you to get into are bowdoin, williams, vassar, and possibly skidmore and brandeis. those schools are hard for anyone though, it is the flip of a coin sometimes as to who gets in and who doesn't. the rest you'll probaby get into without trouble.

oh and wesleyan is a reach too...very difficult to get into

good luck, either way, all those schools are good so it doesn't really matter.

and you probably have a good chance at brandeis and skidmore

There is such thing as a liberal Republican. It means "liberal" by Republican standards. IE, some conservative leanings, but still mostly moderate (IE, Conservative Democrat). Arlen Spector and John McCain are liberal Republicans.

I am a f(ucking) Liberal Replublican. How is it not possible to be one?? You know what I find funny, most people act contrary to their political standing in day-to-day life. For example, I am a conservative republican yet I am extremely generous and am majoring in Hotel/HOSPITALITY. My friend on the other hand is a staunch Democrat, yet he never lets anyone borrow money and never drives his car anywhere because it wastes too much gas.

My point doesn't make much sense, but:
Williams and Wesleyan are a Reach.
Wheaton, Bard, Vassar are slight reach.
All others are reachable.

lol... i MENTIONED the gay republican thing once... it wasn't like my entire essay was about. i mentioned it towards the end when i talked about how coming out as a homosexual made me more comfortable with being an individual and i mentioned how i am now confident to tell people i'm a gay republican, despite all ridicule (which i've received here... lol)...

but yea, i'm at least hoping i get good SAT II's scores and my SAT I's scores improve...

I'd like to at least get into skidmore.

I missed the gay thing. That's interesting...I'm not criticizing. It's interesting though.

Anyway...your chances:

Williams - Reach

Bowdoin: Slight Reach (definitely go for the test optional thing)

Wesleyan - Reach

Vassar - Reach

Skidmore - Safe Match

Brandeis - Match

Bard - Match

Wheaton - Safe Match

Hampshire - Safe Match

Suffolk - Safety

I'd say you're in at all these "safe matches," but It's not a "sure thing"...more like 85-90%...

I think Bennington or one of the Vermont LACs has affirmative action for gays. :p

If you do raise your SAT scores as high as you prospect, there's nothing barring you from getting rejected from Brandeis. Although if you're from an overreprented region, you could have a problem. Also, for what it's worth, a kid in my AP English class wrote his admissions essay on coming out, and it was fantastic.

I find your 'republican' thing interesting because alot of the schools you listed are known for being on the liberal side, although you mentioned that as well. :p

Wait, affirmative action for gays???? I might be gay!!! Yay, I'm an URM!!! Time for some cupcakes and yumyums!!!

You're a jerk. I could only imagine how tough it would be to be gay. Don't patronize this guy.

mastert tang, while I understand everyone's entitled to their own opinions I wish you would kindly ****. Keep your deep-seeded bigotry and go put it to good use, I believe the Hammerskin Nation loves people like you.

Thank you.

HeavenWood: They're called Rockefeller republicans, socially liberal, fiscally conservative (well, relative to democrats. Far to the left of the tax cut and spend right) war hawks (generally the first two define RRism). They were all but thrown out of the party after the goldwater right took over in 64. Olympia Snowe and Chafee were basically rockefeller republicans.

However, they're about as welcome in the new queer hating Republican party as e. coli in potato salad.
