I know CSUs typically hold their responses until after the Christmas holiday and typically send an email - followed by snail-mail. Our household has been pleasantly surprised by otherwise unannounced ‘thick envelope’ acceptances from a Chico and a couple of OOS schools this weekend.
Any idea why the shift and how many CSUs are participating?
Just my two cents, but I think its two reasons. 1) The competition is fierce for both students and colleges. First (or early) acceptance will be at the top of mind for these kids. No one wants to wait until February for answers, even if those answers are from top tier schools. 2) A decision in hand makes for great holiday table discussion. This happened with my son and his Ohio State acceptance. My sister (his aunt) heard the news and was gushing about the school during our Thanksgiving gathering and I’m sure it had an impact on him. I don’t think it’s crazy to imagine admissions committees saying, “let’s get these answers to kids before their holiday break.”
Anyway, just my opinion.
