Things have changed a lot since my application

I'm an international student and have already given in my appilcations late december. Initially I said "no" where it said "do you plan on applying for financial aid" on teh common application.

But since then my dad has "retired"(i use "" because what with the financial crisis especially with car companies since he worked in one, its more like being let go of)...in korea things have been bad for a while so it was really a matter of when he would leave.

Now before, when he had his job, things were fine. Of course i don't know how much my dad earns, but if i had to describe, i would say middle class but slightly on the upper side. My consellor called it the dead zone: youre not so desperate but youre not so rich to have no worries about money. She basically said that because my dad earned quite an adequate sum, financial aid chances were very slim.

Now things have changed, do you think i could contact my colleges and apply for aid (if they do offer it. duke says for instance that they offer "limited financial aid" which seems to be the case with lots of schools for international applicants) or since i would have had slim chances when he had his job and he only lost it recently, i would still have very low chances????

yes, contact the schools. You have to tell them you if you want to be considered for aid.

For many schools, financial aid for international students is limited.
For the few schools that it is not as limited, you still need to tell them you want to apply for it.

You don't want to end up with an admission you can't accept because of money.
