Things I need to do for federal loans

My fin aid package includes the Federal Direct Loan and the Perkins loan. I didn't receive any instruction on what to do for these loans, but as I was browsing through the FAQ on my school's website I learned that you're supposed to go online and apply for those loans or something. (<a href="https://dlenote.ed.gov%5B/url%5D">https://dlenote.ed.gov</a> for the Direct, <a href="http://www.ecsi.net/promM3%5B/url%5D">www.ecsi.net/promM3</a> for the Perkins.)

Is this something that should be done as early as possible, or could I put it off until the like June, when my parents and I won't be as busy? When's everyone else doing it? (I ask this because I'd thought that I didn't have to do anything further, and also want to get a feel when people typically apply for these loans.) Thanks a bunch.

you will need to do this at some point

everyone who is getting a federal loan must do this.

Yeah, I figured. But I'm also wondering, when do people usually do it?
