Don't know if it is the same tablet PC this year (Fujitsu last year), but They did get a docking station and two batteries. The Battery life really is as stated 6hrs. Potter sits around with hers for hours when she is home.

What, if any, is the size regulations on a box of goodies. Shoe size box, or can it be a bit larger? (as in a plastic one that can be stored in the cadets room?

Space is at a premium in a cadet room. Our daughter had a boodle box that was plastic/rubbermaid with an attachable lid. Slighty larger than a shoe box (height), probably 14x9x8. being a little deeper helped with some of size packaging. We went to the commissary every couple weeks and picked out her snacks and mailed them to her. Around January when the novelty wore off I just started having my sister in Denver take her to Costco on the weekends.

In my humble opinion, I would wait until Parent's Weekend, if you are attending and if the cadet requests are such that you can wait, to make purchases of, whatever, for your cadet's room.

Some squads have rules that are squad specific for all areas of cadet life and then there are general rules as to what can and cannot be seen, stored, or otherwise within the confines of that room.

Then, too, by PW, most cadets will have a very good idea of what they would like to have for storage, comfort, etc.

Goodie boxes, personal items, printers (no wireless as that ability is blocked by AFA), locked file storage boxes for the drawer, school supplies if there is something specific that can't be had at the cadet store, etc.

It is only a few weeks and the 4* will have plenty to do between now and the other cadets helping the local economy at Walmart.

If you want to send a box of food goodies, don't worry about size. And if its too much food, sharing is encouraged with hungry roomies! Until PW, like others said, only send snacks really.

Hey, just finished Basic a few days ago. My mom has been asking me about goody box items in some of her letters. I'm feeling lots of candy, homeade cookies, anything edible, lol. by the way, hi mom!

Congrats, arhead 70!!!!! "ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVED"!!! :) (I loved that sign!)

So does your post mean COMPUTERS have been issued?????? ...crossing fingers....

Computers are being issued today.

Yes computers, and we also got a whole bunch of other junk as well, like a keyboard, mouse docking station, extra charger, two 1G memory stick things, a lock to lock it to our desk, an external backup hard drive and some miscellaneous software that I haven't looked at

we got some pretty cool stuff. only thing i can think of now is an external monitor, but we have to wait til they're approved by whoever does that

Congratulations 2012!!

Hello arhead70....Love, MOM

Is it possible for 3 roommates to share a wireless printer? This sounded like to a good (i.e. cheap) solution to the printer problem.

We did learn not to buy a Dell unless it's a machine you really must have; at least here, they do not sell Dell cartridges in the shops and one can only get them online. There, they cost about twice as much as HP ink supplies.

Also, can the alarm clock be a clock-radio? Can it light up? I understand these questions are probably more suited to the squad leaders, but humor me, please.

clocks can't have radios on them. Upperclassmen will be checking. but it doesn't matter if it lights up or not

I asked my cadet about the wireless printer. He is not sure if wireless networks are allowed. His suggestion for sharing a printer is to connect the printer to one of the cadets docking stations in the room, and then whoever needs the printer docks his/her computer to the one that has the printer.

Wireless "connections" are blocked for printers. We discovered that situation two years ago. Cadet has a wireless printer and if it hold out, can be used after USAFA in wireless mode. But, while at AFA, no wireless "connections".

We have had no issues with needing ink or getting ink for the printer. It is up to our cadet to know when ink is needed and order it! Cadet orders - Mom and Dad pay! :)

What are the current standards for external monitors? I revived this thread because I don't think it was answered after this.

24" is the max according to the csp. However, the csp is subject to change every year... which is why a lot of people waited to buy their monitor.

Are there any restrictions on models/brands? I know a guy in my squad here at the P that bought a small widescreeen HDTV that he plugs his computer into. Would that be alright?

well see, there's the deal.. haha.

brands dont matter. however, freshmen arent allowed to have "tv"s.... the max allowance for them is 27 inches, but you cant have them til firstie year
