Things of interest about IU-Bloomington

Thanks for the info. My son is concerned that Southeast is very unsocial and he would not fit in. He is thinking about a hall where doors are often open and people hang-out together. I have also heard from a number of students, while we were visiting, that it is often the case (and understandably) that the music students are practicing during most of their free time. My son is both artsy AND very social. He ended up requesting Central with ‘premium room’, which we understood to be air conditioning and maybe a few inches of extra space. He has lived in SF all his life and doesn’t have a clue about heat and humidity. Who knows what will happen, but I am sure he will find his way…

It’s been a quick four years for my son, who leaves Bloomington tomorrow as an IU-B Kelley Business School graduate. Congratulations to all of the IU graduates and thanks to all on this site for their best wishes.

I’m glad to see we have some other California students (such as fran and keepit positive’s children) who will be attending IU-Bloomington next year, as well as Tulare’s daughter who will be in her sophomore year.

P.S. Keepitsimple–I don’t think you’ll find too much humidity in Bloomington–but getting air conditioning because of the heat is a good idea. And yes, the music students are always practicing in Southeast–even the singers. I saw some singers practicing out on the street near Southeast this past weekend when I was attending my son’s graduation (and school is already over for the year).

Calcruzer…Congrats to you and your son!!! It sounds like IU-B was a great experience for him, and I wish him the best! Your knowledge and experience have been appreciated by those of us who are starting this exciting journey! Keep us posted on the next chapter of your son’s life!

Calcruzer–a belated Congratulations to your son and your family! I know from reading your posts the last few years he had a great support system. Even in college I think it’s important for young people to know that there are people out in the world cheering for them.

Appropriate to the thread title and related to graduation, a fun fact.

IU’s alumni association has over 530,000 members. This is the third largest alumni association. There are alumni chapters and groups throughout the world. New graduates are given a free year of membership.

keepitpositive - I don’t think you’d be too happy in Collins. From what I’ve seen, the residents there tend to be a little more introverted and aren’t overly social. However, you would have a good location and proximity to campus and the union. It’s up to you, but I agree that Central or Northwest, maybe even Southeast (Read, Forest) would be a little better for you. Read tends to have a lot of musicians but there are still social people there too.

Thanks, everybody. Good wishes to you and your families also.
