So I'm a senior from Ohio. I applied to 7 schools. (Boston U, Syracuse U, UDel, UPitt, UofWI-Madison, Denison U, Mount Holyoke)

My mother has taken a transfer to Sacramento as of yesterday.

My first choice right now is Boston and I'll hear back in Spring.

The problem is that the west coast has finally opened up as a viable option for me because I will technically live there, so I can afford to visit the schools. BUT it's Feb. and that's way past any deadlines.

So what do you think? Right now I think my only option is to stick with my original choices for the first year. In the meantime my mom will have established residency in CA. Then if I would prefer to move to a school in the west I can transfer. Can anyone else thing of any good options?

It's a good plan to go to one of the schools currently on your list and then transfer to a school in California.

Most of the time you (or your parents if you're a dependent) are required to show atleast one year of continuous residency in a state before being granted instate tuition anyway. Might want to check on that at the schools in CA you're interested in.

Hi from the "left coast". All schools in CA will require one year residency. Stick to your original plan. You may even find that you don't want to transfer. At this point, I would stay with your current list, choose one of those schools to attend and take your time. Don't go into it with the mindset of "I'm going to transfer".
