Things to do around here!?

Hey everyone.

I’m going to be staying in the Boston University dorms for 6 weeks this summer for the PROMYS program…

I was wondering what kinds of things are there to do around the campus? Are there shopping malls close by? Movie theaters? Places to go for a run?

How are the dorms? How’s the campus?

Sorry for the overly broad questions. I just want some idea of the Boston area before I head over there :)

thanks

omg there is so much to do in Boston. There is the Prudential Center close by with tons of high scale stores, and there is Newbury street with really nice stores too. Everything is a little pricey but its a city so it's expected. And for running, whenever I go I see people running along the charles river. Storrow drive I think it is. It's a road that runs parallel to the river and its gorgeous. Theres like picnic tables and stuff there too. The "campus" is really just about a mile stetch of commonwealth avenue. Its really pretty. And for those who say there is no grass, there totally is. There are places to lie out in the grass and tan, play a little football game, hang out in the sun...all that good stuff. The dorms aren't that great. They're not terrible but theyre not the best I've seen. Theyre pretty typical if youre staying in warren or west. Just two beds and two desks in a square shaped room. If youre staying in apartment style housing, its different. Those are different and much nicer. Hope this helped.

You have a world class nightclub within a two minute walk. Depending on your dorm, you can probably see into Fenway park. The Prudential Building overlooks our campus. You're right on the Charles river. You're also a fifteen minute walk from Newburry Street. You're also a five minute walk from AMC theatres, which is right next to Cold Stone Creamery, which is the best ice cream I've ever had.

I think you'll be fine ;)

As Chriss0620 menioted, walking/running along is Charles is highly recommended. You can take a foot bridge to cross over Storrow (pronounced Stir-row...get used to pronouncing things funny) to get to the Esplanade.

Anything specific you're looking to do?

Sweeeet! Thanks guys. I just purchased a guide for Boston... lots of things to do here.

I'm staying for six weeks for a program, but I plan on getting a lot of sightseeing/shopping in. Also, I will be running often.. Charles River sounds like fun.

Thanks for the input
