Things to do at LA besides studying

Now that most students know if they are going to UCLA or not, so lets get down to some serious topics; Like: What do students do to have FUN?

Beach, Hollywood, Westwood............... where do they hang out?

Well, if you're a freshie and have no car, what we did was just walk down to Westwood. There's DD-Reese (though after 4 years, I STILL have no idea how to spill it) the crazy cheap (it used be a quarter/cookie!) amazingly tasty chocolate chip cookies. Movies.

The Big Blue Bus (yes, it's ghetto) used to be free until some administrators decided that students need to pay... Grr. Well, that takes you to Santa Monica and that's always fun at night, seeing performers and the games/attractions on the pier. Also to other places too.

Malls you've got West Pavilion, down on Westwood Blvd (also by BBB), Santa Monica, Century City, Beverly Hills Center, etc.

Beaches of course, Santa Monica... Marina Del Rey (little further), Venice Beach, etc.

Parties... dude... you go on Sunset Blvd anytime at night... you've got yourself a party. There are a DOZEN of clubs/bars (just watch out for the gay ones!) out there.

Diddy Riese!! WOW... SOMEBODY knows the name!!

Diddy riese yup best ice cream sandwiches and their hot dog deal has fed this poor college sstudent for many quarters. Oh yeah forgot to mention olvera street, the lakers, dodgers, kings, greek observatory, los feliz drive, city walk in universal studios, all the theme parks disneyland, knotts, universal studios, magic mountain and ofcourse the people we are nice not the cold, money driven, pretentious people others outside of l.a. see us

oh...the awesome place to hang out is The Grove. Awesome theatres. Beverly Center sux...haha. trust me...UCLA has so many good things, you'll never get bored.

ok, here we go:

The Grove, Beverly Center, Beverly Drive, Robertson Blvd, Melrose, Glendale Galleria, Sherman Oaks Galleria, Universal CityWalk, Movie Theaters (AMC Burbank, Mann Glendale, Mann Chinese 6, Grove), Restaurants, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Six Flags, Universal Studios
Sports (lakers, clippers, dodgers), Celeb-spotting, Westwood, Santa Monica-3rd street Promenade (at least i think that's what it's called...),
And if you're really bored, go see a taping of Jay Leno (Burbank) or American Idol (CBS television city, right next to the Grove).

And trendy clubs too (Im not the clubbing type though so I dunno much about them)

wow sounds like a blast. can't wait =)

how easy is it to go celebspotting?! haha im so into that...

and also how easy is it to get into tapings of shows? sounds like so much fun :)

Do any celebs. come to the campus? has anyone seen any celeb.?

hey westow are u coming to UCLA?

Yeah I actually played basketball with Master P and lil Romeo in the rec center John Lithgow is always walking his dog around campus (apparently his wife is a professor at UCLA) let me always see laker players practicing at pauley pavilion, oh yeah and I saw justin timberlake in the rec center once too funny thing was that nobody cared I didnt see anyone approach him or anything but it was him he had his bodyguard with him.

cool!!! do we get to see anybody if we hang around in Bev hills/bel air?

my mom once had a similar meeting with a famous indian singer (i am an indian) before his concert; she walked up to him asked him the time and walked off. (i won't have told this story but thought it would sound funny after mexbruin's Timberlake story)

I believe it's free to attend tapings; I attended a Jay Leno taping once and it was free.

With regards to celeb-spotting, I think I saw Ashley Olsen once at Robertson Blvd in Beverly Hills. And I saw Jack Nicholson at a Lakers game (he has courtside season tickets to the Lakers).

I also saw one of the Olsen sisters (forgot which one) at BJ's in Westwood around January. My band friends claim they saw Lindsey Lohan doing a photo shoot on campus... My roommate saw Tom Hanks (i think) at one of his theatre events.

Anyway, a lot of people not from SoCal like to explore LA during the weekends. Also, make friends with an upperclassman or otherwise get involved in an organization or club... they can take you to the parties that happen on Thursday or Friday nights. Of course, there's parties other nights too haha.

Oh, and they do a lot of premiers in Westwood. So as long as you wait in line a little earlier, you'll get to see a star or two. I've seen Tom Hanks in Westwood, Jackie Chen & Sandra Bullock in Beverly Hills, Ben Afflect in Melrose, and Paris Hilton & Nick Carter (that's when they used to be together) at The Grove. That's over a span of 4 years though. So not too shabby! It also has to do with luck too, I guess.

Cant believe no one mentioned BodyShop.

Dudes, you guys are missing out...

Ugh....more tourists. ;-)

There are many, many, many things to do besides study in and around UCLA...it's one of the reasons I wanted to go. I used to live in Burbank when I was working and I would go to Universal City Walk, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, Melros, Pinks Hot Dogs, Hollywood Blvd, The Getty, Griffith Park/Observatory, Countless culbs and restaurants down Sunset, 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Santa Monica Pier, Malibu...Surfing, shopping, rolling, chilling and studying can all be done. ;)

However, you really desperately need to find some off-the-beaten path locales as well....a few places these folks named are just loud, obnoxious caricatures of what they think tourists perceive "LA" to be....lol. Depends on your interest.....of course. I grew up on a beach here in Santa Barbara, so I will definitely make a lot of use of Santa Monica, Malibu, etc......

It is exciting..you bet.

Actually LA is the stereotypes, and caricatures Hollywood and others have made it out to be..seriously. It is superficial, it is about looks and status...but it's up to each person to look beyond that if they want. ;)

True hence why I hate going to Hollywood I get sick being around aspiring actresses and actors and the whole fake vibe that city gives westwood and beverly hills hold some similar qualities but the rest of the city is fine venice and such and pink hot dogs are tasty
