Things to do at UT between March 22 and March 29th?

Hello everyone! I was wondering if there were any exciting things going on around UT during this time period. I'm planning on visiting during this time and other than taking a tour of the school I have no idea what to do. Anything special going on?

ROUNDUP!

It's the biggest event of the year for the Greek community, and is often said to be a virtual prerequisite for rush.

It starts Thursday the 27th or Friday the 28th, I'm not sure which, and continues through the weekend.

There will be a lot of parties.

Do you know if there is a link or something to this event? I have searched but I cannot find an event that matches what you have said. Thank you!

Also, if my uncle were with me would it be appropiate for me to take him as well?

To Roundup? No.

Roundup is a weekend where all of the fraternities hold big parties. It is a spring rush event for guys who are planning on joining fraternities in the fall, and many high school seniors from Texas will be going, guys and girls. It is a major greek happening at UT, and has been for many years. I went to Roundup back in the 70's - and it was a well established tradition before then.

It is a great way to meet people, but it would be best if you hooked up with some other girls to attend the parties...

watch ncaa tournament and support UT

Can you still get basketball tickets this late? I thought you had to buy them well in advance. And, if you can, where online could you pruchase them?

It would be fun to do the Moonlight Prowl at 8 p.m. on Friday night March 28.

moonlight prowl

Two things we couldn't do in Feb were the Texas "Tower Tour" and to see the bats downtown. You should be able to do these in late March.

Have fun!

^That sounds like a great idea. I told my uncle about it and he seems really excited.

UT Basketball won't be in Austin at that time, they will be in the tournament. There are sure to be watching parties and fun events though if the Horns make it deep!

^Fun events without alcohol?

Erm without alcohol? I don't know.

You could choose not to drink. But as a general rule I believe that fraternity parties usually involve alcohol. I also believe that the police are usually lenient with underage drinking at fraternity parties, though I could be wrong there. They are completely lenient with regards to marijuana (as are the APD) as long as you aren't in public. I believe the same standards likely apply to underage drinking as they'd prefer you do it in a safer environment.

Uhh, I hate being around drunk people (I know, I know- I'm going to college soon and it is probably something that I will have to deal with on a normal basis). The smell, the stupidity- it all bothers me so much. And my family just has bad experiences with alcohol. I was hoping I would not have to face it until actual classes start (or, from what I heard, orientaton involves a pretty large amount of alcohol).

Marijuana is even worse.

But I suppose there must be some sort of watching events that do not involve alcohol?

Yes I'm sure you could find them. If the University or the athletic department does an official watching party at the Erwin Center or somewhere like that it will likely be alcohol free. I know that San Jac and probably other dorms also do things like that for big games and so you might be able to get in on one of those and those also don't have any alcohol.

And yes Orientation does involve a large ammount of alcohol...when they say you will have long days, it will not be all for University-regulated activites.
