<p>If your student is moving to California (or other earthquake prone areas) make sure they know what to do in case of an earthquake. Just the basics, but they should know what to do. Drop to the ground, cover head and neck, hold on to shelter. Do not run outside (broken glass, downed power lines, etc). Do not necessarily head for the doorway (old advice, mostly based on old building codes). Do not light candles if the power is out (could be a gas leak). The biggest danger is from falling or flying objects (books, unsecured book shelves, etc).</p>
