I will be going to uky for a campus tour in a few weeks and was looking for some things to do on and off campus… We will have the day as the tour ends at like 4. Is there anything specific we should check out on campus? What are some cool places to eat around the college? What should I expect on the tour? Also, I will be going to a “see blue” pre-professional program or something like that before the tour so any info regarding the tour or uky in general would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
When we toured, we walked and walked and walked around campus and the immediate neighborhood. We had dinner, then breakfast the next day, at The 90 (campus dining hall) and spent a long time there people watching. Ditto with the Starbuck’s in the library.
We stayed at the Hyatt next to the Rupp Arena on our first visit. Had one meal at Freakin’ Unbelievable Burgers and enjoyed it.
H & D stayed at Home2 Suites on the second visit to campus, and there is a Trader Joe’s right there to stock up on snacks. I don’t remember the name of the restaurant where they had dinner two nights in a row.
When D and I went, we checked out the Target and the Mall, not because we were dying to go shopping, but just to get an idea of what was available in Lexington, close to campus.
We are also the type to stop random students and interrogate them: about the quality of the bus lines, moving off campus, how do they get home from the library at midnight, best things/worst things, who do they know who has transferred out & why, etc.
Without D, and with a designated driver, I’m looking forward to doing a Bourbon Tour one day!
Have fun and enjoy your visit. Both visits, there was a strong friendly laid back vibe to UK which appealed to all of us.
My daughter loves Cain’s. She and I both enjoy Indian food, but I can’t remember the name of the place she’s been to. Keeneland is worth seeing. @Midwest67 mentioned Freakin’ Unbelievable Burgers and it is good. Joe Baloney’s is good. Had a terrific sandwich at Saul Good’s (two locations - Broadway is closest to campus).
