my family is visiting penn next month and i was wondering if we could start a list of the best things to do in philly while we’re there.

lots of sports

well, you should probably go get some cheesesteaks (Geno's and Pat's near 11th and Passyunk, Jim's at 4th and South), walk down South Street, go to the Art Museum and Franklin Istitute, see a Phillies game, and other such things.

take the trolley tour

Go see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Actually standing in the room where the Founding Fathers drafted the Constitution is an amazing experience.

Theres old city, which has great restaurants, plenty of history and quite the happening night life. Check out the Trocadero in Chinatown and the Theater of the Living Arts on South Street (two great small concert venues) for events the days you will be there.

The Art museum is fabulous. Unfortunately the major science museums are lacking. The Franklin Institute and the Museum of Natural science are geared towards young children. But there is a great hidden treasure in the city. The Mutter Museum is a museum of medical oddities in the College Physicians. It is truly disturbing (or intriguing. It varies person to person)

Chestnut and Walnut street shopping is a nice way to spend an hour or two. Rittenhouse Square is a great place to go for people watching. Be sure to stop by Reading Terminal Market for a bite to eat.

I'll post more things as I think of them!

leo's cheesesteak is really good but somewhat unkown (the washu of sandwiches)...anyways, i think its in west philly...kinda outside town

You can also visit the U.S. Mint and the new Constitution Museum

Drive to the King of Prussia Mall ;)

Don't forget the Penn's own Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Small but everything on display is top quality.

I definitely second the Mütter Museum - its on 22nd so if you're in the Rittenhouse/Walnut St. area for lunch it's a very short walk.
