Things to Do in Pittsburgh

We will be visiting U of Pittsburgh next week (from NJ) Are there any recommended sites or things to do that we should not miss while there?

You may want to check another website tripadvisor.com. It has reviews of attractions, restaurants, etc. It also has a forum for asking questions about Pittsburgh.

If you have children with you try
Kennywood park [Make a New Memory at Kennywood Park, Pittsburgh PA](http://www.kennywood.com)
There is a good science museum and a good zoo

There are many nice museums and art galleries, etc. (Carnegie Museum) and Phipps Conservatory or the Mattress Factory.
There is Mt Washington and these cool gondola/trolley things that take you down the incline
Maybe the Pirates are playing?
Maybe there is an pre-season Steelers game?
The Garden of Eden! My uncle loves this place.

You can go online and get listings of free concerts and shows.

Thanks for the ideas. Actually we do plan on seeing the Pirates play. We never miss seeing a baseball stadium!

Definitely check out Phipps Conservatory and the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History since they are right in Oakland. You could also check out the Carnegie Science Center, which is right next to Heinz Field (football) and a short walk from PNC Park (baseball) - they do laser shows in the planetarium on Saturday nights. If you happen to be there on the 29th or 30th, you can visit the Shadyside Art Festival, which is always a great time. There are booths with arts and crafts, music, food and a generally great atmosphere. Shadyside is just up the street from Pitt.

PS - PNC Park is a beautiful ballpark. Way better than the Pirates (unfortunately!)

Kennywood is AMAZING but it would take up your entire day. Most parents would rather tour Pittsburgh then go to an amusement park. Plus your son can go with his friends all the time later on. I would recommend the Ducky Tours, Mt. Washington, and the plethora of museums for you to do as a family.
