things to do?

okay, i know urbana-champaign isn't the biggest of towns, but i went to visit today and i was slightly disappointed. for instance, berkeley has telegraph, while university of washington has the ave... i was surprised that i didn't see more resources for students. while i saw a couple of shops in the green street area, you would think there would be more available for such a large student body.

basically my question is, what do students like to do for fun? did i miss something or what?

I would like to know this also. I understand that college students only have class for about 3 hours a day. Is this correct? What do students at UIUC do for the remaining 21 hours?

Did you see any malls and stuff? Was the campus nice? I am visiting UIUC this summer and applying in the fall.

What do college kids do at any campus? Party, hang out, study, sleep, do whatever you want. I dont think at a state school u'll ever find you have nothing to do.

the mall area is really close and yea people basically just hang out or exercise.

i'd say 3-4 hours a day is pretty acurate. So that leaves you with 21-20 hours left. On a weekday you'll spend those days sleeping, doing homework, studying, workin out?, playin frisbee?, video games?, bothering your friends, playing immature (but intelligently designed) practical jokes, and did i mention sleeping? You may chose to join a frat or sorority or another school group, taking up more of your time.

On weekends you'll do all the things you did on the weekdays (less homework though) but you'll add drinking, bars, and house parties (if you chose to drink). Only need to be 19 for most bars in champaign. You could head to a basketball game (i hear they're good ;) ), A concert (they get pretty good bands) at assembly hall, foelinger, or the cabana room (or whatever the heck that place is called), or just stay in and chill. There are also "Illini-nites" that offer a good clean sober time with plenty of activities.

So theres enough to do that you wont be completely bored, but it's illinois. You lose a lot of outdoor activities because of the boring terrain. I just want to make sure you know you probably missed the good weekend fun by going on a monday. You'd probably be correct in saying that college culture type of feel is played down a bit at U of I, compared to say Berkeley or UW Madison which have a very distinct college town feel to them.

lol, here here!
