Things to look for in viewbook

What are the things are you guys looking for in university viewbooks?

Are viewbooks the same as catalogs?
I look for small classes, faculty who give a damn about undergrads, research opportunities, good program in my intended major, and lots of nearby coffee shops/Starbuckses.

nope. viewbooks are advertising materials…

Aren’t they all?
Well, I look for pretty much the same things, but I don’t look at all the mail I get. I get a lot of mailings from random colleges I’ve never heard of with an average ACT score of 8 or something and I usually just throw those away.

I look if there’s people who look my age. (JK that never happens. It makes me wonder if I’m cut out for college).

I look for my major first, because not all schools offer it. Then I look at percentage of classes with less than a certain number of students, and student/faculty ratios.

I look at the same things quidditchcat does. I look for my majors, then faculty/student ratio, then the student activities and class sizes. If I haven’t seen the school yet, I look at the architecture because I’m picky about things like that.

it looks like view books are for same use. They contain some good things. but only good things. i wonder what will happen if a school says " we suck" . I do the same thing. and imagine how they look like as I can’t go to visit places…

Also, look if the college tries too hard to sell itself. If a college tells you how it will “teach you how to think,” etc etc, be skeptical.

I look at the average test scores, and then the lists of possible extracurriculars activities. Generally I’m hoping to see marching band and/or a wind orchestra, a Democratic group or a political type club, and a feminist type group. But most importantly I look at the pictures. I have a few musts in regards to the look of the campus: a lot of green grass, brick buildings (in a colonial American style), columns on the buildings, sidewalks, and deciduous trees. Lastly I make sure that the campus is ethnically diverse my looking at the stats and the pictures.

I look at what the school looks like, see if it looks pretty, not too urban or rural, and if the people there look like I might be able to fit in. I need some trees and green, nice architecture helps as well. But not a tiny school without any sports teams either. Though I’d visit at least once before I choose for good, there might be one nice part of campus and the rest sucks. Also look up the city it’s in. The geographical place is a factor, climate is related to that, most southern places are warmer than ideal, but it’s not a huge factor.

I read most of it if I’m interested in the school, so I guess I look at what the school wants to show. If they don’t have majors I’m interested in, or the academics are bad it doesn’t matter how nice it is.
