Things to love/hate about America

what do u guys mean by "car culture"? is it americans being obsessed with having nice/clean cars?

Our new pre-emptive war doctrine TOTALLY DISAGREE (do you want more 9-11s?)

Only Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11, and Osama is a Saudi. Yet we're in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I love the fact that the strip of pavement on which we PARK our cars is called a "DRIVEway" and the certain type of strip of pavement on which we DRIVE is called a "PARKway."
I also love the fact that we put all sorts of junk in our garages that are collectively worth less than $20, yet we leave our brand-new shiny cars worth more than $30k on the driveway, subject to the possibility of theft, vandalism and mother nature.
BTW, the word GARAGE comes from the French verb "garer" which means "to park." So garage, in French, means "parking." So let's actually PARK OUR CARS in the garage, shall we?

O wait, unless you have one of those Suburbans, Hummers, or Escalades. They usually don't fit in garages. One of the few things I hate about America: SUV's. They aren't meant to exist. It means "Sports Utility Vehicle." Then I guess a SPEEDBOAT that you use for waterskiing is considered an SUV. "Utility"=use. Then I guess an AIRPLANE you dive out of is an SUV, because skydiving is a sport.
Here's what I think: a car that doesn't fit in the garage (which in French means "parking") should not be made. That includes Hummers, Escalades and other ridiculously large SUV's.

A "vehicle" means nothing other than a machine.

the whole Clinton family (not just Hilary)

What did Chelsea Clinton ever do to YOU?

Hate: Bible Belt, obesity, MTV, NO Child Left Behind
Love: Diversity, San Francisco, Bill Clinton, money

hate: narrow minded people, the media

love: freedom, opportunities, NY Times, NATURE

Ya. I hate narrow-minded people with a passion. I also hate those people who are "competitive" but their competitive spirit isn't really a "spirit" and it's more like "GRRR. I MUST WIN." First of all, No you don't. Second of all, you're a complete *******. Third of all, that's a closed-minded attitude. I also hate people who can't take criticism. I hate science with a burning passion.

I love money, capitalism, materialism, some of the MSN money columnists. I also love the New Yorker cartoons. They're funny and sophisticated at the same time.

Hate- The IRS

Love- My tax return check. w00t!

I hate the IRS as well.

Love:
Diversity
Opportunities
Good Schooling resources

Hate:
Prejudice&Discrimination
Stupid Controversy
Our President

Go live abroad. This one seems less bad afterwards. At least it did for me.

Why is everyone here against our great president George DUBYA Bush. I believe the war in Iraq is totally justified. It has been proven that Hussein funded terror organizations, and used nerve gas on his own people. He led a pre-emptive strike on an innocent nation known as Kuwait. The US and George Bush have freed an nation under the heel of a tyrannical dictator. Is not one of the missions of the Us to spread freedom and democracy to all corners of the world? I suppose the liberal babies like Kerry and Hillary can't understand that. Bush is even considering to attack Iran. I say go for it! Iran has 24 known nuclear facilities in its country. It is only a matter of time that a missle will land in the US or and European nation.
Americans forget so easily such days as 9/11. Am I the only conservative on CC? A lot of young Michael Moores posts here, I reckon.

The amount of money spent on this war could have saved a third world country from disaster. Why not put all this effort into something a little more positive? You are foolish, Justinian. You don't know if a damn person has forgotten about 9/11 and you're saying how oh-so many Americans have forgottem? All this BS you're spewing is nothing but your incorrect theories that you're applying to an entire nation. Just because people disagree with Bush does not make them "young Michael Moores", it only means they disagree.

Don't assume you know everything about everyone who posts here based on two or three sentences they write, or apply your notions to a county filled with over 400 million people.

How would you know that the main people against Bush's Iraq "war", may be the people who have lost someone by 9/11 or are personally affected by it? You don't.

Think sometimes.

I think everyone needs to respect each other's opinions.... even if they are stupid. ;)

Is not one of the missions of the Us to spread freedom and democracy to all corners of the world?

It's not our job. That's the UN's job.

Ha, Ha, ihateCA. The UN has not done one thing productive in its entire existance.
Prepstad, you are about as obnoxious as someone can get. Why dont you "think" before attacking someones opinion. Was not saving a country from tryanny and bringing democracy positive? We do pour millions of aid into 3rd world countries and most of it never gets to the people because the government takes it. I can't believe you would condemn an effort to bring freedom to a nation.
We spend billions of $$$ on Medicare and education. I guess this is really not a postive effort either now is it Prepstad.
Jesminder, I really loved that smug remark of yours "even if it is stupid"
There is a new conservative kid on the block, people, and that person is the Emperor Justinian I.
By the way, I can not stand Hillary Clinton. My goodness, I hope she doesn't win in 2008.

Justinian, I'm glad you liked my smug remark, it makes me smile. And if you would have read correctly, Prepstad wasn't attacking your opinion, nor was (s)he mention anything about freedom or condeming it. (s)he said that you're assuming, by your previous statements, that all Americans feel and act the same way, and that you assumed what everyone's standpoints on this thread were based on their posts.

You should consider reading.

And ihateCA never said the UN has or hasn't done anything productive, (S)he said that it's their "job". You're taking everything everyone has said out of context and twisting it into something completely off from what they've said.

Hence, my opinion is that your opinions are stupid, but I still respect that they're yours.
Cheers.
