Things upperclassmen wish they would have brought with them to their dorms

Self explanitory. Anything we may not be aware of that we should take to dorms that you guys didn't think to bring?

speaking on behalf of my son… lot’s of patience, a good attitude and ear plugs :-)

Agreed with sueinphilly. Also a mature attitude and good communication skills.

I agree with the above, especially the ear plugs. I’d also like to add: ability to share space.

As for tangible objects, I wish I would have had my parents buy the necessities for me since we could have gotten them for a lot cheaper in NJ. I had stuff like toothpaste, body wash, etc., but I wish I had brought cleaning supplies, bulk packages of toilet paper and paper towels, trash bags, Ziploc bags, etc. I also wish I had brought Tupperware and some basic foodstuffs. Other than that, I wish I had brought LESS; I certainly didn’t need all the clothes I had brought, nor did I need all the random knick-knacks I brought with me. Granted, they personalized my room, but I really had no space for them at all.

Oh! And bed boosters! They’re really cheap but they can lift the beds up high enough to be able to slide a suitcase or plastic storage box underneath.

cleaning supplies for the first day. our bathroom was filthy and dusty and the room was pretty dusty itself.

Vibrators…

…since so many guys are gay.

oh please, if a girl can’t find a guy in MANHATTAN or even Brooklyn or even Jersey (ha). . .it ain’t the city or the school, honey. it’s you.

yes, NYU has a large LGBT population, but it doesn’t make it any harder to find a guy.

Yo missamericanpie, if your ever lonely, hit me up. I heard NYU girls are not all that particular…

sorry. i’m already dating a Cornellian.

;-)

Does being a straight male really increase my chances? Haha. I heard George foreman grills can be a godsend. Where, besides bb&b, do people go dorm shopping at?

i bought stuff for my dorm at the Container Store. they give out coupons on move-in day. i bought organizational stuff such as storage boxes to go under the bed and hooks to hang things over the closet doors. they also have lots of kitchen stuff. there’s one on 6th avenue which is right across the street from the Bed Bath and Beyond.

also, the K-Mart on Astor will be swamped on move in day, but they have lots of stuff. you’re paying NY prices, however.

if you’re driving in, there’s a huge Target in Hoboken right outside the Tunnel. don’t bother going to the Target in Brooklyn, it’s absolutely horrendous.

Why is that? I was planning to take a trip down there on a Saturday to get stuff.

it’s just really jank and the shelves are often bare and it’s not really worth it. it’s always messy, there’s never anyone to help you and unless you have the patience of a saint, don’t go.

a muzzle (for my roommate, of course)…
