@Jolynne_Smyth I had no idea that Dave Ramsey has an app. I am going to check it out and maybe set it up for my teenage son.
I also agree that I will probably no longer need any work clothes. When I do shop for clothes I find myself looking for hoodies and T shirts now. I save a lot of money because how many hoodies does a person need? My clothing budget went to a couple of hundred every season to practically nothing (and forget shoes, I have two pairs of years old Skechers bikers and then in summer I live in flip flops now).
LOTS and LOTS of gas for my car! I usually have a pretty long commute and I went from filling my tank every 4 days to maybe once every couple of weeks or less. I will not miss that at all, or the maintenance and wear and tear that a commute like that brings on my car.
I have not been a regular church goer, but now that I haven’t allowed myself to, I find that this is something I’m Really looking forward to.
I’m also looking forward to joining a gym. I want the collegiality. I’ve taken so many nature walks by myself or with my dog this year, and it’s been wonderful, but I miss people!
But what I haven’t missed? Buying things. I think there is a natural process where once your kids are out of the house you find that there really isn’t much that you need. I think the pandemic just sped up that process. Also, if I do buy something, I want to buy it locally and support my local stores. The pandemic highlighted the importance of connectivity and helping out your neighbor.
I figure a couple more months and my gray growth will be at a great bob length. I have no desire to go back to the salon, but I’m not sure I’m ready to go to shorter hair. Swimmer buns are so easy!
I chopped off my hair last summer, as it was getting in my eyes while swimming (outdoors, in the harbor, very socially distanced). It wound up looking just as good as when my hairdresser does it! I’ve decided to let it go partially gray, and cut it myself. My hairdresser always came to the house, anyways, but now I don’t really see the purpose.
I hope to go back to our small local playhouse, and to the small summerstock theater, but right now I cannot imagine going back into a theater, even at fractional capacity, masked, and distanced. On the other hand, outdoor theater? That I would definitely do.
I don’t see myself ever going on a cruise ship again. Even getting on a plane wearing a sealed hazmat suit with a backpack air supply would be tough!
I purchased the Crea clip and like it too!! I am low maintenance for hair…do not color or highlight, and used to just have cut every 3-6 months at Great Clips. I cut it myself with Creaclip.
Mine is shoulder length too and I divide it in the back and pull each side to the front and use the small straight clip to cut in front of my chin while looking in the mirror.
I’m too scared to do that. I use the curved clip upside down to create a wedge (shorter in back than in the front). Maybe I might be brave enough to try it sometime…
I have very curly hair, which is why I really don’t want to cut it short. It’s long, so I do get a straight cut; if I cut it to a bob, I’d have to straighten it every day. That and I live in the south; humidity and curly hair don’t mix! It’s so easy to put some Brazilian Blowout straightening balm in it and whip it into a swimmer bun.
@millermom - the Dave Ramsey app is called “every dollar.” You basically plan how you are going to spend/allocate every dollar of your income each month. It shows you what you’ve planned and (as you enter after your purchases) what you have left. Has helped me a lot. The app is free although somehow I ended up getting a paid, enhanced version. Free was fine!
I’ve reduced my clothing budget drastically because I’m wearing scrubs and a white coat at work. I used to wear a dressy sweater, dress pants, dress shoes.
I never stopped going to the grocery store, just love it too much. Restaurants another story. We have takeout weekly, and always add a tip. The main restaurant recognizes H’s orange car, doesn’t even ask for his name any more.
I’m looking forward to travel, including flying and cruises, though probably not until 2022.
Above all, I miss live theater. We’ll eventually go back, though not sure when.
I miss love theater a lot as well. Also miss seeing loved ones since haven’t seen much of anyone for about a year. I have continued grocery shopping in person, though much less often and more mindfully.
Add me to the list of those trying to embrace the gray! I’m kicking myself that I went back to coloring last June when my salon opened - I would probably be totally done growing it out by now. Had I only known how long I would be working from home!
Hoping I won’t go back to commuting - at least not full time. I haven’t missed that at all!
Really, not a ton that I miss! I’m quite the homebody so I haven’t missed a lot!
I am lucky that I’ve never colored my hair… so nothing to miss there.
I do miss getting my fine, straight hair permed. It was something I had done a 2 or 3 times a year for the past 40 years. I did have my hairstylist come to our backyard in July to cut my hair (and hubby’s too). Then I visited her condo, which has been her “salon” past few years, in October for a haircut. I’ve been letting the bangs grow out, and not sure when I will surrender to have them cut.
In general, my hair looks terrible so flat and straight. Sometimes I lament that when on zoom calls (zoom calls for fun - I retired last summer). But all along I’ve had this sort of solidarity thing going on with the hard working medical folks. If they can brave the torture of covid times, I can deal with bad hair. But I have started my vaccinations and may go for another masked haircut (stylist tapes it in place) soon.
@kiddie I do not think this applies to my area. I tried to move my highlights, cut/style up one week and tried multiple days and times. Unable to get an apppintment with my stylist earlier. This I will not sacrifice, no gym membership, travel is rare.
Hair appointments to continue!
