I wore heels until I started dating my future husband, who is my exact height, 5’-9”. Have never missed then!
I had a family member cut my hair during Covid. Simple cut with slight layers. Googled instructions. I went back to my former salon a few weeks ago, and it was the worst cut I’ve had in years. Back to family member!
Dye free since February! Gave in in July 2020 when salons re-opened here, and kick myself now! I’d be done growing it out by now if I had stuck to my guns! I’m finally at the point where I don’t do a double take when I see the silver framing my face as I pass a mirror!
I’m resurrecting this thread to see where we all are, three years since the onset of the pandemic and two years since I started this thread:
I have still not purchased any type of baked goods ie bread/cakes/cookies. I bake bread and a cake each week
In the past three years, I have dispensed with my monthly mani/pedi and have probably had six professional jobs in three years, the rest of the time, I do my own
We still eat out very little - perhaps a couple of times a month, and I’ve never colored my hair, so no change there!
I’m curious how your experiences have evolved in the past few years?
Less shopping or all kinds but especially in person shopping/browsing- I just really don’t want to waste time at stores!
Less takeout, less eating out. Have been eating out again the last year or so (maybe not quite) but it’s very infrequently.
I belonged to my work university Rec center prior to Covid - today I had the opportunity to sign up for a potential free semester membership - but it’s not appealing to me at all - I generally get 5 purposeful miles of exercise on my own without a gym.
Transitioned to and don’t expect to change:
Takeout, online shopping, streaming, facetime, and curbside groceries
Outdoor entertaining
Adventure van
Less eating out - mostly because it’s so expensive (NJ) and not good enough to justify the $$$.
I cut & color my own hair now.
I’ve only taken the subway twice in the six months that I’ve been at my current job. I mostly work from home but am in the office 1-2 days per week. Those days I walk about 3 miles each way to my office/back to the ferry that takes me to NJ. There’s not a rush to be in at 9 sharp like there used to be.
No heels, no underwire! Work is biz casual so it’s fine.
Still zooming a ton for my job, not much personally.
Sometimes I still order our groceries online but only do it when I’m strapped for time.
I don’t really drink alcohol anymore and I seem to have dealt with a bad bout of anxiety during the pandemic. I quit my job in April and found a new one in May, much saner!
Less makeup, less dressing up. Fewer in-person meetings (I love being able to sign the voluminous paperwork for my son on internet portals).
In general, less contact with people which for me is not a bad thing.
Work clothes.
Stopped coloring my hair and fully embraced the gray; figured out to keep my hair trimmed and love the look (short, wavy, sassy), so not gonna go get professional cuts anymore; hardly ever eat out anymore; still don’t have what it takes to go to a concert or live theater, which I miss, but just not “there” yet.
Never really went back to wearing make up and I stilldo my brows myself.
Cutting my own hair…I can’t imagine making that work! But I’d love to get rid of that appointment and still have my short/curly/wavy hair!!!
I have longer curly hair (past my shoulders) and have cut it myself for at least 15 years. I just do the length, though, I don’t try anything fancy. Curly hair can hide a lot lol.
Agree on longer hair. But shorter hair - at least mine has some detail going on in the back that would be difficult to replicate blindly!!
My job.
Yup! I actually use teeny tiny scissors (think beard trimming) and more “whack” than “cut” and always on an angle (upwards) - the length is just at my earlobe.
The last time I had a highlights appointment for my hair was February of 2020; my hair grew out over 2 years and now it’s a light mousy brown. I don’t love it but I also don’t want to go back to getting highlights every 8 weeks!
As I’m a solo parent, I’d stopped drinking wine during the early months of the pandemic as I’m the only adult in the house, and because I’d usually only have 1 glass once a week or so. I didn’t want to open up any of my nice bottles of wine without anyone else to drink it before the wine faded off. So I haven’t had any alcohol in a few years, and I don’t think I will. (I use to be in the wine business, so I’ve had much good wine in my life, I just think I’m done!)
The only thing is that I have been not been to a movie in a theatre. (not that I went very often anyway). Everything else is back to pre pandemic pretty much. I am more consciencious about when I am around people and when I am home.
I still get my hair done as I did before, and toes.
I have been to a Broadway play (masked) and the movie theater is not someplace I go often, but have to admit NO desire to go again. Can def live without.
H and I stopped going to the gym in 2020 and have never returned. We are able to walk 5 plus miles 5 times a week and do our weights and stretching 3 times a week at home.
We are back to doing everything else as we were doing pre pandemic. The one exception is flying. We have been on many road trip vacations since 2020, but have not yet taken a plane for a vacation. H did have his first business flight to Europe in October 2022, but I have not flown since the pandemic.
