Not sure if I really have a chance to get in, but I'm praying they'll let me in for summer session.

GPA: 3.52 uw, not sure what it is weighted

6 APs and 3 honors classes

horrible SAT scores: Reading 590 Math 530

great extracurriculars: President of the Future Community Leaders of America Club, Member of the National Honor Society, Award Recipient from Habitat for Humanity, Won and Internship with a local historic site, Spanish Club member, charter member and secretary of the modern fashion club

Think I have any chance of getting in? I know my stats are rather low for UP.

You probably will, my grades and SATs were about the same but I didn’t have as many extracurriculars. Obviously as long as you checked the box on the application, that is. I got in to the summer.

i have a 3.96 weighted and 1840 SATs and i said yes for summer.
i havent heard anything yet and my app has been complete since mid october…
what do you think?

Im in about the same boat as you, lionlover. 3.61W and 1850 SATs, yes to summer.
My app has been completed since early october, and I havent heard anything yet.

eastcoaster00- i have pretty much the exact same stats as you and my app has been for a while now too
I checked summer but i’d definitely rather get in fall.
I feel like i’m exactly in the middle of what they accept for UP and what they accept for summer so i’m really stressing. anyone know if people with similar stats have gotten into UP for fall?

My stats were 3.84 GPA weighted and 1750 SATs. I got in for the summer but they wouldn’t let me just do the fall. I was accepted for the summer but not fall. Hope this helps!

Wow alb525- Im in the same state of mind. Checked summer for UP but really would rather not do it. It seems like we COULD be accepted UP Fall, but almost definitely (I hate to say that word here) for summer.

But who knows. Its all a toss up anyways, really.

^^^
Very true!! Been waiting since middle of Sept. still havent heard anything…
But as far as it goes, does anyone think i can get in for summer anyway?
4.0 GPA
1800 SAT
Lots of ECs and honor classes and such…
what do you think?

burdman- with a 4.0, you don’t have much to worry about, especially since you applied early.

eastcoaster- it’s good to finally see someone on here with the same stats/mindset as me! good luck to you and if i hear anything i’ll definitely keep you updated because we’re in the same boat. till then i’m just crossing my fingers :/

i have a 3.96 W and 1840 and i checked yes for summer and ive been waiting since mid october. i applied for business and more than a month ago i called and said theyre not looking at the mid 50% business people. i said yes for summer and i will totally go for summer if not admitted to fall because UP is my first choice school. what do you think?

lionlover- i really think with your 3.96 you should have no problem! especially if you’ve taken advanced/honors classes and whatnot

plus-- ideas? i was thinking of writing an email to the admissions officers expressing my interest , because honestly no other school compares to penn state for me. i just feel like if they know how interested/serious I am about attending it may make me stand out from people with similar/higher stats that aren’t actually interested. do you think that could be helpful to me or just annoying?

Honestly, I think the summer session is a waste of time. I only took two classes and I spent the rest of the time hanging out with people. The classes were just gen eds that had a little to do with agriculture (I was in Ag LEAP). It did help me meet a great group of people but I hang out with a different group of people now. It is just a way for Penn State to get more money out of you. That being said, they wouldn’t let me come to UP without doing the summer session. The only other thing was it allowed me to learn my way around campus. I spent hours biking around campus to learn where everything was but if you don’t do that, you will only learn a small part of campus.
Summer would not have been worth it if I didn’t need to go in order to make it to UP in the fall.

Well, for me, since I want to go to UP soooo badly, i really dont care about summer honestly. Like today i thought my status changed and i literally started to hyperventilate. My sister went and said it was amazing, but i can understand that it might be lame too. The way i see it, if it gets me to into UP and not altoona-that’s cool with me! :)

Wow, I find it amazing with your GPA (3.84) that they forced you to start in summer session. I hope it was worth it. My daughter’s stats are 3.52 and SAT score total 2090. Based on this thread, it looks like her only possible chance of getting in would be to start in the summer. She says she is willing; PSU is her first choice. (It all sounds expensive to me and I’m holding out hope for a couple of other large state schools she has applied to that are cheaper and also great schools!)
