I am a senior in HS

I understand I could have done way better. Could have had a 4.0 easily instead of a 3.0 in high school but thats not even the thing. Yes I do sports and have enough Extra Cir. I played Var Football, basketball and was on robotics club and spanish club and 150 + volunteer hours...
3.0, ACT 27 (retaking in Feb 9.) 6 Ap/IB classes (3 in 11th and 3 now in 12th)
I basically put all my hope getting into MSU. I got denied. CC isn't really an option. Parents.

Got deferred by U of M
Got into Central Mich. Wayne State, and U of M Dearborn.
Just applied at Miami of Ohio yesterday and Arizona State University.

Please reply on what you think I should do.
Just in a very stressful place.
I applied as an engineer at every school listed above

A part of the reason I guess is that everyone else I know is going to U of M and MSU from my school and some throughout the various places in Michigan. 3 kids in my grade going to Miami of Ohio. Out of the 500 Graduating kids. around 100+- go to MSU and about 50ish or so go to U of M. even though a lot more get in.

My parents want to move to California during the summer because we have fam there and they wanna move before my brother (7th grader) is in HS to make the transition easier for the little guy. Now if I got into MSU or U of M there wouldn't be a problem. Good school, parties, food and overall the college experience and life I want. But if they move there Now i cant even APPLY to the UC college down there (DEADLINE HAS PASSED). Plus if i did go to a smaller school or CC down there I literally know no one. It would be hell. Going to CC in Michigan would atlas be better because I know the area and literally everyone in oakland county. I would be able to enjoy time with friends and still get a good education.

If I do get into ASU or Miami of Ohio I guess I'm torn on the fact that I do wanna go but at the same time done.... I wouldn't know anyone. Im just somewhat disappointed I will never be a spartan also. I do understand that I can appeal to MSU but being realistic, unless I come up with some emotional story or good ass essay on why they should still consider and look at my I'm not getting in. So at this point in time im ****ed.
Even though I still haven't gotten a reply from U of M because 7th semester grades aren't done just yet, no one I know gets into U of M with a 27 ACT and 3.0 (9th-11th). Yes I am retaking it and will send those scores hoping for a 30+. But even then if i go to dearborn (U of M) or CC or anywhere transferring to any college even with a 3.5+ or even a 4.0 does not mean you will get a spot at the college you wish to transfer, meaning you will get screwed. I Feel like thats what would happen.
Now don't even get me started about OOS tuition which is another reason if I go to ASU or OHIO U it would be costly. And the only reason my parents WERENT gonna move was because I would get In state Tuition but whats the point of that if i am not going to MSU or U of M

NOW BEfore anyone responds, I am of Asian background and its almost a disgrace not going to a good college or if you go to CC to start out with in the culture we have. So thats another problem.
All in all just any advice, suggestions and recommendations would be nice.

As an out-of-state student with your stats, you would not have been admitted to any UCs anyway, so you didn’t really miss anything by missing that deadline. The minimum GPA for OOS applicants is 3.4.

If you move to California, the community colleges there have excellent transfer pipelines into the UC system, including guaranteed admissions programs if you maintain a certain GPA with a certain specified courseload. If you’ve moved there with your family, you should be able to pay in-state tuition after the first year.

The cruel truth is that your stats weren’t competitive for MSU and UM. If you want to go to that caliber of school, you’re going to have to up your game academically at wherever you can get in, then look at transferring.

Lots of people end up going on to colleges they never dreamed about in places they never heard of before. (I’m from California and have attended colleges in Alaska, Idaho and Indiana.) Just because you won’t be with your high school friends at MSU doesn’t mean you can’t find a great school somewhere else and build a whole new set of relationships there.

Yeah I understand I wasn’t that competitive even though I know kids with worse stats and grades that got into MSU or at least deferred. Lets see first what Miami U and ASU reply to me. If anything i’ll either end up going to Cali and go to CC or a pipe line university to a UC school.
Or I would either Go to ASU/Miami U and either go there for a year or 2 and transfer to UC’s or MSU/Umich if I don’t like the program or school or ill just stay there if I build new relationships and like the school enough. Thanks

Find out the residency rules for the places you want to study in MI. Once your parents move you might lose your in-state status. Are they happy shelling out that kind of money? Some universities and some state systems will preserve your in state status as long as you are continually enrolled. Ask them about this.

The CA community colleges are full of Asian kids who don’t have the money/grades/desire/etc. to start at a UC or CSU. If you move to CA with your family, you could start at a CC there and then transfer within the CA public system. There are a couple of subforums just for CA, go read what those students have to say

Lastly, engineering is engineering. Provided the program is accredited by ABET, it doesn’t matter much where you go. You will still be offered the same salary when you get a job.

There is no such thing as a “pipe line university to a UC school.” It is exceedingly difficult to transfer to a UC from anywhere other than a California community college, because a large majority of transfer slots are reserved for community college transfer students by state law, as part of the Master Plan for Higher Education.

If you go to ASU or Miami, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to transfer into a UC later. If you want to transfer to a UC, you need to start at a California community college.

There is no stigma to going to a community college, nobody is going to care and your UC degree is the exact same as anyone else’s. I speak as a California community college graduate who transferred to a state flagship and is now attending a Big 10 flagship for graduate school.

You think I could transfer into U of M or MSU from ASU or Miami (ohio)? Big 10 schools are a great combination of everything IMO

And yeah I guess CC would be a good option if I wanted to go to a UC school. Isn’t Santa Barbara City College a CC. I don’t know much about it but it would be much better to live somewhere else then at home. My family will move to northern Calinoria by Sac. if you know the location well and can recommend schools?

Try Michigan Tech. Also try U of M at Flint from where you can transfer to UM, Ann Arbor. By the way Engineering is quite tough at Ann Arbor & you might be better off to take lower level pre-engineering classes at Dearborn or Flint & transfer later. Good luck.

I am a very bright student. Just have to make better decisions. I would do well at U of M. What would be the best way to go to UMich if i were not to get in?
I also heard ASU gives out alot of scholarships/Grants

Michigan Engineering Transfer Program
A partnership between UM-Flint and U-M, Ann Arbor that allows UM-Flint students two choices of engineering transfer programs.
