My main worry is that I come from a weak school in Virginia that doesn't offer ANY AP or IB classes......plus my SATs are not the best. I have no idea. If anything gets me in, it will be my essays and extra curriculars, but I am very skeptical. I know that some people get in with mediocre at best SAT scores, but I really fear my lack of AP will push me out. I just hope NYU sees that I can't help that my school doesn't offer AP!

P.S.
Found out my class rank today:

12 out of 350

top 3 %

3.9 or 4.0 weighted GPA......not sure yet

Can't really say if you'll get in or not but I would think that the admissions people will wonder why you didn't apply directly to Tisch. NYU does not have a 'theatre arts' program, so to speak. They have drama, and of course, dramatic writing. The thing is, anyone who is not in Tisch is only able to take the open arts curriculum course offerings which really aren't anything at all like what the majors take. You could apply to Tisch and minor in history or some other subject in CAS.

Your gpa is good and if you took the most rigorous curriculum which your school offered, you should be ok. Your SATs are low, below the middle 50% which will be a problem. Any reason you didn't retake them? You might be better off retaking and applying Regular Decision. Just a thought.

your looking better, go for it

Thanks for the insight.
I thought long and hard about Tisch, but in the end I decided on Gallatin because I have a very broad range of interests, even though I would like to have drama and dramatic writing as one of my major areas to focus in. Overall, Gallatin seemed the best for me, so that is what I went with.

I took the SAT two times and didn't improve it much the second time, which sucks, but oh well. I am hoping that my newly released class rank will help.

Any other suggestions/thoughts?

The thing is, lots of Tischies have a broad range of interests. That's why so many double major or have a minor in CAS. This isn't unusual. The thing with being in Gallatin, as I said, is that you are not permitted to take the 'real' Tisch curriculum. As a member of another NYU college, the only courses available to you at Tisch are the Open Arts Curriculum. There are varying opinions on these, depending on who you talk to, but they are, generally speaking, thought by many to be glorified arts h/s courses. Now that may be what you're looking for but if you are coming to NYU with your main focus on drama and/or dramatic writing, it just seems a mistake not to be at Tisch. You certainly won't have the same education, nor credentials, as a grad with a Tisch BFA would. Up to you obviously, but just thought I'd point that out. Here are the drama and dramatic lit Open Arts classes offered this year. As you can see, the selection is limited, hence, the nickname Tisch Lite.

Thanks for the links, the sites were helpful.

I fear I may have put too much emphasis in theatre in my above ^ description of what I want to pursue. At first I was leaning to Tisch because of my theatre interest, but I have so many other things I want to incorporate that Gallatin seemed to fit me perfectly. I knew the theatre options were much slimmer if I went the Gallatin way, but I chose to do so anyway. I looked at both schools and saw which paths I could take, and for me Gallatin seemed better because I have no real central thing that I want to "major" in, so to speak, even though theatre is a big interest. I have almost equal interests in writing, Euro-history, English, and French, so I have no doubt that Gallatin is the best place for me, even though it may have seemed from the above that Tisch would be an obvious choice.
I know it sounds weird, lol, but I've thought it out and weighed my options.

Now, of course, I must see if I get in (crosses fingers, knocks on wood, etc. etc.)
