Think my son has a chance?

Hi All,
My son is a senior and applied to Cornell under Regular Decision.
His stats are as follows:
ACT: 31 (got a 36 in math...fell down a bit on the english)
SAT II's: Biology - 780, Math 1 - 760, Math 2 - 780
GPA: has a unweighted score of 98.7, weighted 104+
Taken a number of AP classes and in his senior year all college classes, running a 99 avg right now, unweighted in his senior year
Took the SUPA (Syracuse college bio course) in his junior year and got a 99
He is ranked #2 in his class.
Great recommendations from school as well as work related
EC's: mock trial, varsity tennis, scholstic bowl, math team, tutors students, lot of school involvement
He was picked to be the only HS student to be allowed to volunteer at the Orange County, NY coroners office as a autopsy assistant. Does this on school holidays as well as in the summer...got a recommendation from the Coroner.
He also volunteers on the weekends at the local hospital in the ER dept.
Very good essay
He wants to go into medicine.

Do you think he's got a chance getting into Cornell? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

I think the essay/recommendations will be the most important factors since he has really competitive statistics. If he’s differentiated himself well enough he should get in.

Yes, i think he has a really great chance of getting accepted! GPA, class rank, and test scores are amazing! Adding the extra curriculums, he’s chances are very likely!

chance back please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1090817-what-my-chances-gettin-into-penn-state-u-pitt.html

he should strive for higher act/sat scores if he wants to do medicine. Otherwise it looks fine. How big is his class size/ what is his race/ethnicity? That would matter too.
He also needs to specify the school he’s applying to and major (or declare undecided). That matters as well

His essays do not have to be great given his credentials, they should not be bad. Contrary to popular belief, they like well-rounded as well as well-lobsided.

Thanks all…he’s been accepted into most of his safety schools…he really wants to go to Cornell. Think we may have made a mistake not applying ED…oh well…guess time will tell.

act kinda low… which can be very dmging if hes asian. i d say he has a chance

No, not Asian, white

how would being asian and having a 31 ACT hurt someones chances?

Cause the person’s an Asian.
'Nough said.

Having a 33 and being Asian would hurt your chances. Everyone knows Asians need to get 35+ to stand a real chance… and not play either violin, or piano… or be on math team.

much appreciated if we can get back on track for my original question. I think he has a decent chance of getting in

Chancing threads are useless at this point in time

What school is he applying to and what is the major that he designated. There is no real “chancing” that can happen if you do not give us that info. Some schools are easier, and others are harder. Some would fit your son more, others don’t.
