THINK summer institute at Davidson Institute?

Does anyone have any experience with this program? I'm trying to figure out which would be more interesting for my 13 y.o to do the summer before 9th grade - THINK or CTD. My older child really enjoyed CTD but I just heard about THINK and it looks intriguing.

Bump… I have exactly the same question (THINK vs. CTY). Has anyone done THINK at Davidson?

My DD (rising 9th grader) just applied to THINK because she fell in LOVE with the philosophy course… we were wondering if anyone could respond and tell us their thoughts on the THINK program… DD is VERY excited about going… however, she is also looking at JSA-Freshman Scholars at Princeton for a totally different experience.

We would love feedback !!!

I posted a similar question on our state gifted and talented organization forum, and here is what one parent replied today:

“My daughter (an 8th grader) did THINK last summer, and she can hardly wait to
return. It was extremely well-supervised, she really enjoyed her fellow
campers, and learned a lot in the courses taught there (e.g., I think her
writing improved significantly, as well). That being said, it was awfully
demanding to try to complete two college courses in a 3-week period, with at
least 6 hours of class each day, followed by at least that much time on
assignments & reading for the next day, and she was in a major state of sleep
deprivation for much of the time. Her calls home for a while made me worry that
I’d made a mistake & she was in over her head, but that could be partly be due
to her being on the younger side & never having been away from us for more than
1 week at a time. Most kids apparently didn’t seem as homesick to her.
However, her self-confidence has increased as a result of this experience, and
she made some very good friends, but one somewhat negative consequence is that
she has been less interested in school this year. Because as hard as it was at
times, the frenetic pace of the material was also refreshing - I guess!”
